“Nice staff, hotel a little tired”
Reviewed 8 March 2012

Stayed for six night at the Andaman Seaview Hotel during March 2012. The hotel is at the southern end of Karon Beach approximately a one hour drive from the hotel. Contrary to the implication of the hotel name, room 104 certainly has no view of the Andaman Sea.

Upon arrival, the friendly and welcoming staff dealt with the formalities and greeted us with a refreshing fruit juice. We were upgraded to a room offering direct pool access which to be honest was of no interest to us whatsever, in fact we felt that the room was not especially private due to the sunbathers outside.

As noted by several other reviewers, I felt that the hotel is a little passed it's best. The plumbing system is noisy, the air-conditioning also noisy with a defective thermostat which was reported to the maintenance staff but remained unresolved despite their interventions. I was provided with three kettles before one was found that actually worked.

On a positive note, the staff are exceptionally welcoming and friendly, they seem to try hard to ensure customers are left witn a positive experience. My slight criticism was of the reluctance of reception staff to call a taxi, instead suggesting I venture out on the street to hail a taxi or negotiate with the abhorrent tuktuk drivers. Quite frankly I would expect it to be not too much trouble for reception to simply call for a car.

The hotel seems very popular with Russians, they were certainly the largest client base in the hotel. Whilst I have no desire to take my foreign holidays surrounded by other Brits, the Russians appear a cold, dour group of people and not quite as affable as us Brits.

Food in the hotel is adequate, breakfast is a buffet with assorted fruits, cereals and a wide variety of hot dishes. I didn't eat dinner but noticed that a large buffet was laid on for the Full Moon Party, the food looked nice, once again a buffet with a variety of meat, seafood and assorted Thai and Western dishes, this extravaganza costing just short of 700bht per person. Unfortunately every morning at breakfast, the hotel management treat the guests to piped music playing throughout the hotel dining area, after about the third day it became very tedious, we could have done without it.

Outside the hotel are a number of small restaurants and bars which seemed popular, I had a "takeaway" from one as we were tired and couldn't be bothered going out - my food was cheap and very tasty! There are also several shops offering massage, laundry services (which we used and were very good) and a convenience store for snacks and drinks at cheaper prices than ghe hotel minibar.

In summary, despite the welcoming and hospitable demeanour of the staff, I wouldn't come back, I would save a few money pennies and spend the money on a more expensive and luxurious place to stay. You get what you pay for.

If you are expecting a romantic hotel offering wonderful views of the ocean and cocktails overlooking the beach at sunset then this is not the place for you.

Clean hotel with very friendly and honest staff. Good breakfast buffet. We left cash in our room in the local currency twice and always found it neatly stacked on our return. The beach is literally across the road where you can have a massage on the beach.....bliss. We totally loved the local dessert made by a street vendor just in front of the hotel, a fresh pancake filled with good chocolate and fruit of your choice at a really good price. The hotel has a good location, walking distance to various bars and restaurants, walking distance to a number of travel agents where you can book various day trips and safari's at good prices, massage places are just outside the hotel (recommended as much cheaper than the hotel spa) and the tuk tuk is just outside the hotel to take you to Patong or Kata beach a mere 15minutes away.

Room Tip: all rooms are have a seaview

Hotel is well situated for Karon beach and some excellent & well priced eating spots. We found the hotel pleasant enough but showing its age. The main downside was that for our entire stay (December 27-31) workers were building a platform over the main hotel swimming pool, for the New Year gala dinner, making it practically unusable. I believe this should have been declared to us at time of booking. Room service was also difficult to pin down and everyday, no matter what time we returned from the beach or excursions, our room had not been made up.

Staff were friendly enough and breakfast decent. May look for a better option next time though.

We were delighted with this hotel. It's about an hour's drive from the airport.
We ended up in a deluxe/superior room - which was ENORMOUS! -far bigger than we needed. We had a huge living area with sofa, chairs, dining table, tv, fridge. In the bedroom area another tv, walk in dressing room and very large bathroom plus balcony. Everything was spotlessly clean.
The hotel is situated just across the road from the beach. We really liked its relatively quiet location -although a short walk over the ridge was the busy resort of Kata.
There is a lovely spa in the hotel. I had a couple of excellent massages there. It's more expensive than the many that you find all along the streets but has a lovely atmosphere and is much more private than the glassfronted street ones.
We ate dinner in the restaurant -as our deal was half board. The food was excellent, although I guess more expensive than some of the restaurants nearby.
The only downside for us was the lack of a decent bar. There is a pool bar but in the evening that had no atmosphere ........ and very few people!
Having taken advice from other trip advisor travellors we booked our trips through Asia Direct before leaving the UK - and were very pleased. We also took a taxi from immediately outside the hotel in Phuket town and a tuk tuk up to see Big Bhudda (well worth it).
