“thoroughly enjoyed our stay”
Reviewed 22 April 2012

Having read some of the poor reviews that were recently written, our expectations were low. What a pleasant surprise. We found the front desk people extremely warm and friendly, and most of the staff always greeting us with a warm smile--such a difference to the two previous hotels in which we had stayed this month in Thailand.
Previous reviews warned about the older rooms so we asked to look at both. While the renovated rooms are indeed much better, we did not find the older room as bad as portrayed in other reviews and given its location and view, we took the older room and had no regrets. Indeed, it was nice to stay in an a room where the airconditioner actually does lower the temperature below 21 degrees Celsius. The elevators are old and unreliable but we are told that new elevators are being installed next month.

Breakfasts are a buffet that while not bad are not great for the price that is charged and we never could eat enough to justify the price we were paying. What we were not told and we found out on day 3, was that you can order from an a le carte menu. We were able to eat a suitable amount of food for less than half the price of the buffet.

Yes, the property is worn but we found it just fine and enjoyed the pools and private secluded beach. Now, if only the hotel could be become an industry leader in making public areas, especially the outdoor eating areas, a non smoking zone, our stay would have been even better.

Had a fun time with friends due to the close proximity to Patong. the reception staff is very "by the book" so you get what you reserved. Even as a spg gold member no upgrades or anything offered. i wouldnt stay here again unless i was traveling with single friends again. The property itself def needs renovation compared to the Westin (which is on the opposite side of Phuket). Beach is very nice.

Based on the reviews, we decided to book a deluxe room on the 4th floor overlooking the pool. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, and it all went downhill from there. As we walked to our room, anyone would be able to see that this hotel is EXTREMELY outdated. We walked into the wood paneled elevator that REAKED of mold, and brought to our 'deluxe room' that was covered with ants!

We decided to go have lunch and just get acclimated to our settings, but barely no one spoke english! while I do realize that I'm in another country, you are working for a Starwood hotel and knowing what MENU and DRINK means is pretty important when dealing with people all around the world. The room service? DONT ASK! While trying to use them twice, I had to cancel my order because it took well over an hour to get a simple soup to my room! The tours? your best bet is to go on Trip Advisor, and figure it all out yourself. They charge well over 4x the price for something you could easily find elsewhere, not to mention the tour groups they use abuse animals (as per trip advisor and other forums). The straw that broke the camels back was upon check out when the 'transportation desk' told me they would call a cab to the airport, and it would cost roughly 1500 baht. Considering the fact that I paid 500baht to get there from the airport, I was livid... literally, I went on a tour of 5 islands with lunch and transport included for 1200baht the day before. I'm pretty well traveled, and seldom even leave comments/reviews on any forum, but visitor BEWARE! They def want to take you for a ride here .. not worth it!

Dear "LiriaG03"

Thank you for your time in posting this review. I am truly sorry to learn that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We are aware that some of our areas need refurbishment and have actually carried out room renovations in 2010 and 2011. Currently over 70% of our 470 rooms and suites are renovated and we look forward to expand enhancements. The resort has scheduled to replace its 4 guest lifts - two later this month and the other two in September. We do our utmost to ensure that a guest room is inspected and ready for a guest arrival. Your comments remind us that we should continue to improve this procedure. I regret the inconvenience and apologise for the dissapointment. Our associates, especially those in guest service areas, are provided with English language classes. We would surely be disapointed too if it were true that they did not understand the words "Menu" and "Drinks" which I should add are widely used in the Thai language as well. Nevertheless I have shared your feedback with our English language instructor for review. Please excuse the lapse in our in-room dining service. I have also mentioned this to our Food & Beverage Director to look into. The tour company that rents space at the resort has been informed of your dissatisfaction and claim. I am assuming that you were able to take one of the few metred taxis from the airport. Due to the absence of an established public transport on the island, hiring private cars and local "tuktuks" for transfers could be expensive compared to other cities in Thailand. However, I would say that rates set by the private company renting space at the resort is at par with those operating in other resorts in Patong and Karon. Thank you for your review. I do hope you'll consider staying with us again. We would look forward to the opportunity of providing you with a more enjoyable stay at Le Meridien Phuket.

The location of this hotel is wonderfully secluded away from the hustle of Patong Beach, but close enough to go there whenever you want. The staff is always helpful and friendly and will to help with excursions, shuttles and transportation to and from town.

If you're looking for a romantic place to get away for a few days, you've found it here.

Room Tip: Rooms on the lower floors are an easier walk to the beach and the pools.

I stayed here with my partner in December 2011 for 3 nights in a Deluxe Pool View on the 3rd floor which had views of both the pool and the ocean from the balcony. The room was spotless and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom had a large shower which had a glass screen so you could see the tv & also had speakers inside the bathroom. The room was serviced each day & was left clean & tidy with new bottles of water left in the room. The resort is large with many facilities so really if all you want to do is relax there is no need to leave. When we arrived at the resort my partner had been suffering from severe food poisoning from Phi Phi Island and we were glad to find that the resort had a clinic with a nurse. A couple of times a day there is a baby elephant which is brought out and you can have your photo taken with it for a small fee. There is free wifi available in the lobby and other public areas you just need to ask reception for the password. If you want wifi in your room you need to pay for it.

For those who like to explore you can walk out to the front of the resort and hop in a taxi or tuk tuk. Patong is only a short drive away where there are many shops, markets and restaurants. Just outside the resort there are a few shops and a couple of small restaurants. The buffet breakfast has many options to choose from so you won’t be disappointed however it is very busy! I found the staff at the breakfast to be slightly inattentive had I had to ask for tea quite a number of times before it was given to me but really not a big deal. We only ate dinner at the resort once, the food was really nice so can’t complain.

The private beach is stunning & there are many sun lounges available with umbrellas. The pool is in the centre of the resort & is huge. Overall I had a nice stay at the resort and didn’t really have anything to complain about. If you want to get away from the busy towns like inner Patong this is a great little hideaway.

Dear "Pony1985"

Many thanks to you and your partner for choosing to stay with us on your holiday in Phuket last December. It certainly is delightful to know that you enjoyed your stay and that you particularly liked the Deluxe Pool View Room you stayed in. I am sorry to learn that your partner was unwell when you arrived at the resort. I hope he recovered well during your stay and glad to know that the clinic was able to assist. Many thanks for highlighting the secluded beach and our oversized swimming pools. The resort's location - with a secluded beach and large green grounds - is certainly a good respite from the busier areas of Phuket. We certainly appreciate your time in posting this review and do hope you'll stay with us again on your return to Phuket.
