Had a lovely evening meal here, following a recommendation from a friend. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent. I had the Mexican Beanburger which was very good. Will definitely come back again.

My parents came to visit and stayed here for the night, they was very happy with their room and the service.

Me and my partner met them in the evening for a few drinks, and sitting in front of the log fire, rugby on, whisky in hand... it was perfect. Great service, friendly staff, superb spirit selection.

We all had a dessert, and again, very nice.

Met for breakfast the following day and the full English was A1. Will definitely be returning. Looking forward to trying the evening menu.

Thank Adam K

Quiet Monday lunch. 3 of us had the 'Pie & Pint/glass of wine option. It was venison with cranberry & juniper & declared excellent. I had the roasted Plaice with buttery sauce. Yumm. The hips were obviously home made, the salad savoury & the sauce ran down my chin.
The staff were charming, attentive & flexible eg happy to substitute potatoes for mixed veg.
One of our party was in a wheel chair. The whole building was on one level, parking is directly outside & the loos incl. a disabled one were adjacent to the restaurant. Spot on
The bill was very modest .

Thankyou to The bell. Hope to be back.

P.S well done for dealing with the cheesy-chips man so eloquently ( see previous review)

Went to resteraunt for a quick lunch.. ordered 2 bowls of chips and 2 drinks....asked if I could have some grated cheese on our chips...well. the chef was rude. arrogant. and made the front of house staff look stupid..."we don't put cheese on any of our dishes. So I'm not going to..." (he did finally) but we were told in no uncertain terms that it will not be happening again... really...? The poor girl who was dealing with our order was obviously so distressed by the way the chef had just spoken to her..that she spent the next 5 mins apologising for the chef. and him being so rude..if you can't manage to sprinkle cheese over hot chips without flapping. maybe a new career is in order..in the words of the late great Michael winner.." calm down dear"....i mean. It's only cheese.. not impressed. Such a simple order...but such a fuss...!!!!. Wonder if the owners realise what is going on in there resteraunt when there backs are turned...

Hi Lee W and thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

Whilst I appreciate that your request was a simple one and the waitress had been put in a difficult situation, quite frankly we're not the type of public house (or restaurant as you label us) that would expect our diners to request a bowl of cheesy chips and have that constitute a good lunch. Without wishing to sound pretentious, we are aiming to be slightly more ambitious with the food that we serve than that! In your review, you speculate as to whether "the owners realise what is going on in there (sic) restaurant when there (sic) backs are turned", well in this instance you're right, I'm disappointed that a table has been used on a very busy Friday lunchtime for a total food revenue of circa £6.

Having said that, I will of course be having a chat with the chef in question. I do hope you decide to give us another try and maybe be a bit more adventurous with your lunch choice next time, perhaps a sandwich?

we visted for a 60th birthday celebration! nice ambience! prompt service we were all served together! the food was tasty! though could be slightly bigger portions for the money! as it is a pub at the end of the day! but over all a good experience! much improvement from the last time we visted 2 years ago!
