“Brilliant place to dine outside in splendid surroundings, great food & service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2011

What a great place to stay the night.

Its a little off the beaten track and its certainly not cheap, but the setting and quality was perfect.

Dinner outside was extremely good and the service faultless. The breakfast was rather disappointing although again the service was very good and friendly.

The rooms were varied and characterful. Nice quality and you did not get the feeling of a "cookie cutter" approach.

Definitely stay here if you can, wonderful place to unwind!

Beautiful hotel, wonderful grounds, great food. Now for the interesting part.

A friend of mine were in route to Annecy for a week of bicycle riding. We had a couple of days to kill before meeting up with the rest of our group so we booked rooms at the Chateau for a few nights since it was supposed to be a nice area for riding.

Since we were traveling from overseas we had to set up our bicycles. Instead of relegating us to some hot garage, the hotel staff offered to let us use their "board room" to set up an store the bikes. While setting up the bikes, the manager stopped in and offered to recommend some rides in the area. When we came down for breakfast the next morning he had our ride all mapped out.

About 45 minutes into our ride I had a severe mechanical failure....broken rear deraileur and bent hanger on the frame. When the manager heard of this he said no problem and first thing the next morning personally took me to the local bike shop (owned by a friend of his). The bike shop could replace the derailleur but could not bend the hanger back into place without risking breaking the frame. The hotel manager then took me to the local auto shop where they pulled out the blow torch and bent the piece back into alignment. He then took me back to the bike shop where they offered to replace the derailleur that afternoon and the owner lent me his personal top of the line bike to ride the balance of the day.

I rode the ride that manager had planned for the previous day. It was fantastic. I would come back just to ride more in the area.

The next morning, my bicycle was repaired and ready for the balance of the trip.

I cannot say enough about the manager and his wife. They were hospitable from the moment we arrived and then upped it several notches when disaster struck.

Don't let my story over shadow the Chateau. Wonderful place to stay from all points of view.

Room Tip: I don't think you can have a bad room

Looking for a hotel to spend one night on our way back from the South of France, we decided to stay at Chateau de Germigney, after reading the so many positive reviews on Tripadvisor.

Port Lesney is a very small village in the Jura, eastern part of France. Many vineyards in the region and the lovely village of Arbois (birthplace of Louis Pasteur) is a few kilometres away.
Chateau de Germigney is a lovely building, surrounded by a beautiful park and it boasts a natural pool.

Reception and welcome was very warm and friendly.
We booked a junior suite (the biggest room of the hotel, as we understand), which was quite expensive, so we had high expectations. The room was big indeed, very nice and overlooking the park; the design and furniture seem a bit tacky, although I'm not sure if that is the right word. Maybe "contemporary" is a better description.
However: The bathroom was an absolute disappointment: Very small, with the shower IN the bathtub with a showwercurtain. The plumbing had seen better days. More-over: It was very, very warm in the bathroom. A major let-down for such an expensive room!
There was only a small closet/wardrobe in the room; not too bad for us, as we were only staying one night. The second closet in the living area was stuffed with blankets, pillows etc.

Dinner was served on the terrace and we had the BEST meal we have had in years! The food was gorgeous, very, very tasteful. We have eaten in many 1 or more * restaurants over the years, but this one was by far the best! Hard to explain why and to explain taste, but the restaurant is so worth a detour!
Because the interval between the courses was a bit too long for us (more than 30 minutes in the beginning!), we asked if they could speed it up a bit and the kitchen did immediately comply. Well done.
The -male- waiter however didn't match the excellence of the food: He was very arrogant and snuffy. He hardly took the trouble to explain what we had on our plates.Too bad. The -lady- sommelier however, was very friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately: The Chef didn't emerge from the kitchen, as is usually the case in a * restaurant.

Another small disappointment as to the room was the turn-down service: Yes, we had clean towels in the bathroom, the bed was turned down and the curtains were drawn. However: The waste-baskets, both in the bathroom and in the bedroom were not emptied and they were both very full.

Breakfast was another wonderful experience: Everything served to the table. Many small dishes, fruit, cheese, sliced meat, an abundance of warm rolls and bread, local cherries, freshly (!) squeezed orange juice. Very tasteful and again very, very good!

As both dinner and breakfast were served on the terrace, we cannot judge the restaurant and bar inside. All the spaces inside however look very nice and cosy.

Should you want to have a fantastic meal, Chateau de Germigney is definitely worth a detour!

Room Tip: Probably all rooms are very nice.

The Chateau de Germigney certainly lives up to its well deserved top rating. If you like luxury, and fine food, this Relais et Chateau property is the place to go. 5-stars all the way.

This was our third stay here, and it still never fails to impress.
Excellent attentve staff, beautiful hotel and surroundings.
And, of course, food to die for!
Nothing is ever too much effort.
Will definitely be returning.
