Date of Visit 17-24 August 2014
We flew into Larnaca International Airport and from there the drive is about 30-35 minutes - mainly on unlit motorway but the last part through rural countryside and historic village(s). The Villa is located on the outskirts of a small village called Maroni. It is pretty much secluded and hence privacy is guaranteed. There is minimal traffic disruption from the closest road - in short, a quiet, slightly remote position where a car is, to my mind, necessary if you wish to get about. There are views of the Mediterranean from the balconies and at night time the sky is filled with so many stars due to minimal light pollution from the surrounding area. The nearest good sized supermarket is a 10-15 minute drive away.
Villarosa itself is a very well proportioned 3 bedroom villa. The kitchen is huge and a real feature for us complete with large fridge / freezer, full size dishwasher and washing machine. It was fully stocked with all cleaning materials, towels, tea towels - we packed dishwasher tablets and some other cleaning materials but really shouldn’t have bothered - in that regard it was like home from home. The villa was spotless when we arrived.
The villa living space comfortably accommodates an 8 seater dining table and lounge / seating area for a similar number. The air conditioning is fully effective and actually was only needed on the really humid of days. Marble stairs lead down to the terrace and pool area which is again, spacious. The pool is not heated but at the time of year we visited, it really didn’t need to be. It was a good temperature and provided a useful respite from some very hot conditions (it reached just over 40 degrees on some days).
There is no WiFi at the villa and neither of our mobiles had a strong enough signal for 2, 3 or 4G internet access so we were cut-off from the usual up-to-the minute news deluge and actually, that only helped us to relax more quickly and more fully.
We emailed John (the owner) a couple of times before committing to the let. By comparable standards the villa was slightly cheaper than others on the same site and we wanted to understand why. Suffice to say John was both patient and reassuring. I was met on arrival by Property Manager Debi. Because of the location Debi agreed to meet on the main through road in Maroni and drive the last half mile. We arrived late at 10pm Sunday evening and whilst this was clearly out of hours but Debi, she was not at all put out, being polite, helpful and patient as she showed me around the Villa. She had been to the local supermarket and had bought some basic provisions - bread, milk, juice, water, bacon, eggs etc - so at least breakfast the next day was catered for - very welcome and much appreciated. Debi was also available with directions and any other general advice we needed through the week.
The villa, location and owners made for the most enjoyable and relaxing of weeks. The weather was fantastic - hot, occasionally humid but just what was needed to recharge the batteries. Overall the villa could not be faulted. If I was being picky I’d like to see a brick built BBQ in the pool terrace and I understand this is a winter project for the owners in any event. So happy to give 5 stars. This review is personal but a genuine assessment of what we felt living at Villarosa for a week. We’ll be back and looking for a returning client discount……N.B. John!
