Went here with my in-laws and my partner in their touring caravan in September 2015. Good location, lovely pub over the road which does lovely meals, fish and chip shop down the road, a quiet location giving good access to places such as Filey, Scarborough, and York.
Pub and small shop at reception on site, offering nice meals and drinks but they stopped doing meals part-way through the break due to it being a non-peak time (early September). Small arcade room with 2p machines, grabber machines, other small arcade machines and a pool table and air hockey table. Due to again being non-peak the grabber machines and 2p machines had been turned off. Also has small swimming pool (no life guard on duty but has security camera linked through to reception) with separate changing rooms and a small gym room. Pool was warm and clean, changing rooms relatively clean but was open drain in cubicle with a toilet in the ladies.
Staff seemed pleasant, were polite and not rude.
The site also has two childrens playgrounds, one near the touring field and one opposite the pub/reception building.
Dog walking field at the top of the site, nice place to walk dogs with picnic bench at top of hill. Has lovely views across to Scarborough on clear nights.
Tourers are on a field at the top of the site, with only a portakabin as toilets. The ladies contained two toilets in cubicles and a sink. Mens and ladies toilets separate (obviously). Showers and other toilets are down a hill (which leads up to the tourers from the statics) and are opposite the reception/pub building. This means to shower that you must walk either down the hill (it does have a road and is curved so is not steep) or wooden steps (this can be slippy when its been raining!), which is around two to three minutes walk from the touring area. I did not mind this as I enjoy walking but my step-mother-in-law found this very annoying. Pot washing facilities, etc are also located in this area, other than the portakabin there are no either touring facilities on the touring field (with the exception of electric hook-ups).
Showers and toilets were clean and water became warm after around a minute and stayed a comfortable temperature. I found this very good as most sites I have stayed at the water always stays cold or lukewarm, here the water was very warm. The lights in the toilets can be turned on near the door using a finger-sensor, they usually stay on for about 20 minutes before needing to be re-sensored.
Overall an enjoyable holiday and I would return, but the touring facilities being far from the touring field and the fact most things are not done/turned off the first week out of season (first week of September) is quite annoying. The open drain in the ladies changing room also needs sorting ASAP! (I suggest using a different changing cubicle and the toilets in the arcade room).
There is also not much activity on the site, especially out of season. I would not recommend this site to people who want to stay and do activities on-site, especially those with children who enjoy on-site entertainment, but I would recommend this site as a place for people looking for a quiet and safe location for their tent/tourer who will be off-site throughout a majority of the day.
From my personal preferences, I would give this site 4 stars due to its nice quiet location and I enjoyed walking the dog on the large dog field, which as I mentioned has a lovely view of nearby Scarborough in the far distance on a clear night. An overall enjoyable holiday. I am hoping to return soon with my partner on a camping holiday.
