We visited at least 10 Tavernas on our recent stay in the Kissamos region.
We ate at some fantastic places, but this place was absolutely exceptional.
We had actually turned up the day before only to find the Taverna closed at lunch, the owner told us he would be open that evening or all day on the following day.
First thing he said to us upon arriving the following day was how nice it was to see us again and his son placed some ice cold Raki on the table. The owner then sat with us and discussed the courses before showing us the wood ovens and the huge pork ribs hanging over an open fire.
Even the Feta was roasted in a pot in the fire, along with the pot of olive oil frying the potato's.
Our meal essentially consisted of House Red, a Cretan Salad, home made sausages, a huge plate of pork, Boureki, oven roasted Feta with peppers and a plate of watermelon.
Frankly Crete for me is about the traditional hospitality and the family recipes, amongst many other great things.
The Old Grandma chair in the corner, the horse in the garden, the family working as a team to satisfy their guests.
This Taverna absolutely epitomises everything that is so good about eating out in Crete and we could not thank them more for our experience.
