Performing and recording with The Cleveland Orchestra in Sankt Florian Stift, we enjoyed walking the beautifully landscaped grounds and visiting the burial place of composer Anton Bruckner, who lies in state beneath the magnificent organ on which he performed. The acoustics are amazing, even heavenly, inside the ornate Baroque sanctuary. There is a wonderful gift shop and Feuerwehr museum as well as restaurants.

An important place for Anton Bruckner 's fans. İt is nearly one and a half hour distance form Vienna. Only if you join the tour ( at 11:00,13:00 etc) you can visit whole building including the library ,the treasure, the grave, the grave of Anton Bruckner, the Ball hall and the Church. If you don't take the tour only Church can be visited. Everyday except Tuesdays and Saturdays organ concerts take place at 14:00 in the Church . The music is played with Brukner's organ. The tours are onlar in German but the audio guide in English is available.

Have had a tour of the complex and have climbed up both of the western towers. Have played the organ all lead by the monk who is the parish priest of the monastery church.

A beautiful monastery. It's directly located on the highway from Linz to Vienna. It's the place where Bruckner wrote some of his famous music.

I had seen photos of the library in one of those 10 most beautiful libraries of the world collections that circulate around the internet. For my husband it had the added connection to Anton Brueckner.
Since it was close to Linz, we went. It was easy to catch a bus from the Linz central bus station next to the central railway station.
Once at the Monastery, we had lunch (reviewed elsewhere), took the tour and then stayed for the organ recital in the church at 2:30. Only about 6 other people were at the recital, we had the whole gorgeous baroque church to ourselves. I'm surprised that St. Florian does not have more reviews and photos. There are many more photos than I could add here at my husband's blog:
