“Good start to our honeymoon”
Reviewed 25 June 2012

This hotel was the first stop of our honeymoon and we were really impressed when we arrived. The staff are helpful, courteous and efficient. Check in was smooth and pleasant and although our room was not ready at 10.30am (understandable) we had a nice breakfast and by the time we had finished we checked into our room. The room we had was the entry level property and was nice - clean, comfortable and quiet.

The grounds of the hotel are well maintained and the private beach is a real plus, the hotel staff will drive you around in a golf buggy to wherever you want to go on the resort but the walk to the beach is lovely across the golf course there are some beautiful views.

The food in the evening is fantastic, creole buffet in the main restaurant was great, lots of choice and delicious dishes. The Seahorse is a great fine dining restaurant with lots of character and good service. The Beach bar and grill is arguably the best setting for an evening meal but it was very busy when we ate there and the tables are very close together which spoils the romantic atmosphere somewhat.

I can not criticise this hotel it delivered what was promised, I would only say that in some places I have seen this advertised as a 6 star hotel. It’s a solid 5 star but nothing more, you’ll be disappointed if you are expecting something above the usual 5 star standard.

I would recommend the Le Muria if you love a luxurious resort and are not fussed about a personal service. I didn’t find it particularly romantic as there were quite a few noisy guests but we had a good time.

We took a car around the island - its so worth doing to see all the other beautiful beaches!

We stayed for a week at Lemuria during the first week of June. Our stay there was accidental. Due to a bereavement we had to move our original booking for Constance Ephelia, and because of no availability at that hotel on the new dates our travel agent managed to change the booking to Lemuria. Knowing that it's a step up compared to Ephelia our expectations were a bit higher and we weren't disappointed.

On arrival we were met by several staff, and the manager spoke to us before we were whisked away on a buggy to the upper reception. They opened the impressive doors to reveal the hotel and welcomed us with a cold flannel and drink. Check-in was fairly painless (the usual paperwork) then soon afterwards a member of staff took us to our room and explained what we needed to know about it.

The room was good, nothing over the top, with all the usual facilities. A nice touch was the free Internet connection through a good size LCD TV which had various features (TV channels, DVD/CD player, Internet etc). There was a problem with the Internet and nobody came when we reported it, but luckily we sorted it out ourselves. Also, the air conditioning always stayed at the same temperature even after we adjusted it. The ocean at Anse Grande Kerlan could always be heard from our room. It was about 25m away and quite rough at this time of year, and we were advised not to swim in it. Petit Anse Kerlan was much calmer, and on some days suitable for swimming in and a bit of snorkelling.

The resort is beautiful with two beaches and well tended grounds. Nearby Anse Georgette is stunning, about a 20-25 mins walk or 5 mins on a buggy, though the sea is quite rough in June. The pool is over three tiers built around granite boulders, with an infinity pool and bar in the top tier.

Food was the best we've encountered in a hotel on holiday, truly 5*. All the restaurants have open walls, the breeze can be welcome in the heat. Evening buffet in the main restaurant was always good with plenty of choice, and at dinner they welcomed you with a cold flannel. At lunchtime they served snacks and other meals from a menu. The Beach Bar & Grill has a great view over Petit Anse Kerlan and though expensive for lunch it's worth it. On the beach the Takamaka bar serves snacks and drinks. And the Seahorse Restaurant on the way out of the resort, next to the golf course, is arguably the best. On HB some dishes at the Beach Bar & Grill and Seahorse have a supplement (beef fillet and lobster, IIRC). One thing to bear in mind about food is that they don't cater well for vegetarians - something we also experienced on Denis Island. On arrival they ask for your food allergies and take that into account when serving you.

Yes, drinks are expensive (what do you expect in a 5* hotel in the Seychelles?) and they charge you for bottles of water at mealtimes, nothing unusual in that in my experience, but for those on HB they do provide one bottle of water per day in the room for free.

Amazingly we didn't have a problem getting sunbeds even late into the morning. Either there weren't many sunbed hogger types staying at the hotel or the staff were removing towels from unused beds. Either way it made the holiday more relaxing.

Lemuria, like any hotel, wasn't perfect. We try not to let a few niggles spoil our holidays, unlike some of the reviewers. If you don't like birds near you when eating then don't come here. At breakfast and lunch they can be a bit of nuisance – don't leave uneaten food on the table unattended is my advice! Not all staff are always smiling and perfectly helpful, but the majority are and we found the service overall to be excellent and the best we'd experienced so far. The hotel touts itself as 6*, I think it's best to ignore that and think of it as a 5* and have appropriate expectations. Maybe some people were unlucky and had bad experiences, but some of the recent negative reviews don't reflect the holiday we enjoyed. Maybe it helps that we're more prepared when we go on holiday and don't worry if a resort can't provide dental floss or nail varnish remover!

Before travelling I mentioned to the travel agent that it was my wife's birthday while we were at Lemuria and the resort kindly provided a complimentary birthday cake.

We'd recommend Lemuria as long as you know it's expensive and have a suitably prepared bank balance to pay for it.

Room Tip: Ask for a first floor room, you get more privacy and a better view.

We stayed at Constance Lemuria as part of our Honeymoon in 2011. The resort itself is beautiful and a fantastic place to stay if you are keen Golfer. The Hotel is much bigger than the other two hotels we stayed at during our Honeymoon. The rooms could do with a little updating and they had no real personality, they are a good size, but you could have been in any Hotel room in the world. The beaches are all breathtaking we particularly liked Petite Anse Beach as the water was calmer here and we loved the Takamaka bar for afternoon cocktails. Anse Georgette is a truly stunning beach turquoise water and white sand, it was really quiet whilst we were there we practically had the beach to ourselves! The food was fantastic throughout our stay with a lovely buffet breakfast with everything you could want. We loved the setting of the Boathouse restaurant and particularly enjoyed the Lobster Honeymoon meal there. We thought the food at the A la carte Sea Horse restaurant was outstanding and would highly recommend you go there throughout your stay. We visited La Digue throughout our stay and had a great day, bicycles are the only way of getting around the island which was great fun, I hadn’t been on one since I left School!

The wine was really expensive throughout our stay but that was the case at all the Hotels, we were told by each Hotel it’s because they have to import it, but at the Supermarkets it was really reasonable!

Would I go again – definitely a lovely Hotel in the most beautiful part of the world I wouldn’t class it 6 stars maybe 5. Seychelles is a very expensive holiday destination so a great place for Honeymoon, a special holiday or if your loaded!

Stayed here first week June for 8 days with our young son in a villa which came with its own member of staff to look after you. Sabrina was very good and was very helpful, a pity I can't say that for the rest of the staff. Most of them need retraining in all areas of their work in particular how to greet a paying guest with a smile and to listen to what is being asked, then they wouldn't constantly forget things.

Having come here from The Four Seasons on Mahe which was superb, it was such a dissapointment. The villa was spacious but a bit tired. The buffet resturant was a disgrace with uncleared tables, bad food and very bad service. The a la carte restuarants were much better so we ate at them most days and nights.

The beach and surroundings are good, just a pity the service etc lets it down.

So to some up , great beach and location,a la carte very good, buffet terrible with bad service.

We chose CLR having read all the glorious reviews and in search of a honeymoon with a "wow" factor, but sadly other than the beauty of its own nature and good sized, clearn rooms, the resort leaves a lot to be desired for, in particular service and knowledge provided by staff, who were not exactly a friendly bunch with a very few exceptions.

Repeatedly having to alert staff that neither coffee, coffee milk, water AND even toilet roll had not been refilled was unnecessary. Being charged for mineral water all the time with an added 10% service charge on top is just ridiculous. Make sure you keep receipts of your payments (which doesnt always happen) firstly at dinner we were presented three times with a wrong bill, secondly check your final bill upon check out. I also lost count of the amount of times we did not get what we ordered, had to repeat our order up to three times nearly daily, in particular at breakfast the coffee finally arrived when we were finished...

When arriving at the breakfast buffet you'd find a lot of uncleared dirty tables covered in birds feeding themselves on a leftover croissant, which again for a 6* resort in low season with more than enough staff is unnecessary.

Whilst the quality of food was good, the choice in all three locations was atrocious as the menu did barely change and there is only so much pasta, pizza, ribs, chicken tikka one can face and we'll be having more fish in the UK for dinner than we had in the 9 days in the Seychelles.

The resort could do with more publicised tourist information as we found the few posters not always up to date and overall there is little much else to do if you are after more than just a beach holiday with the resort offering no evening entertainment other than a one band man. Also be prepared that a day excursion e.g. to La Digue will set you back 150 euros per person. The resort's website advertises "shopping facilities" which are nothing but 2 tiny overpriced boutiques, which don't cater even for a wide range of essentials.

All in all, a beautiful place and we loved the beach and swimming, but definitely not 6 star and totally overpriced and I certainly would not recommend it, especially for a honeymoon.
