We spent two nights at Gamboa on our weeklong vacation to Panama. When we arrived, we were highly impressed with the views from the large windows in the lobby. However, there was tremendous variability in the quality of the service from the time we arrived to when we left. We encountered a few individuals who were outstanding in their attention to the guests (e.g. the two ladies at Guest Services), some that were good (e.g. at the buffett restaurant) and some who were incompetent and unfriendly (at the bar). I believe some of the latter is due to language barriers, but much of it has to do with training and a lack of understanding on the attention and follow up needed to please guests staying at a relatively high end resort. The quality of service and poor maintenance became more evident when we discovered that our bathroom had no hot water, which the maintenance folks tried to fix on three occasions but were unable to do so during our entire stay. We were fortunate to have a second small bathroom in our suite that we used in lieu of the non working master bathroom. On my departure I had a chat with the manager who understood our concerns about guest serves and maintenance and apologized profusely for these oversights. He helped make up for the rather poor experiences we had during the stay. Also, there are lot of tour buses that come up to Gamboa (some only for a little time to sightsee) and detract from the quality of this beautiful place and possibly diminish the service to the paying guests.

Having stated the above, Gamboa is a very nice resort in a very beautiful location. The food was generally quiet good and several of the staff (the manager and guest services personnel) went out of their way to tend to our concerns. I wish more of the staff were better trained. We loved the trip up Gatun Lake to see the ships in the Panama Canal and monkey island. Overall, a good trip that could have been better if we had not encountered the challenges.

We were picked up at the airport in Panama by a representative of Gamboa Rainforest Resort – like we had booked in advance. The mini bus drive took us about 45 minutes without problems.

The check-in and service at the hotel was without problems, even though there was a big reception with a wedding at the same time.

We had booked two rooms for the night and found that both rooms were in good shape. The air condition was very noisy (I would not cope with it more than one night), but since we were jetlagged, sleeping was no problem.

The rooms smelled a bit because of the high air humidity, but I guess that’s kind of normal in these parts (rainforest and the Panama Canal close).

We went for a snack in the bar and were served immediately; we just had some mozzarella sticks and fries to remove the worst hunger.

The breakfast in the morning offered a great variety of food, but getting coffee or tea was not so easy. It would be much easier to have self-service than waiting for waiters to serve.

The hotel is recommendable if you want to experience a nice and clean hotel in the rainforest area of Panama, or you just need a quick break before going on a cruise like we did.

And by the way, the nature around is great. Why not take a walk around the landscape?

We (a couple) stayed at Gamboa in early February for 7 nights. The resort is spectacular. It was a great stay from beginning to end. The staff were great. The food was wonderful. Don't be afraid of having only one buffet and one al a cart. They change the food theme in the buffet daily. Every meal was great.

The room was clean, spacious, and the hammock on the balcony was a really nice treat. The view from the room was incredible.

the swimming pool is big, great termprature, and there is lots of shade if you want it.

Take the Gatun Lake excursion to see lots of animals and birds.

If you are a nature lover, then this is the place for you. If you're looking for a lot of action and kids programs, you might be disappointed.

Take the aerial tram- fabulous

Our flight home was delayed by 6 hours, and the resort graciously accomodated us and even gave us an additional meal. Great service.

Kudos to this resort - a very unique and wonderful experience.

Gamboa Rainforest resort has a wonderful location. We loved the huge balconies and the view of the Chagres River. Enjoyed the spacious pool with plenty of lounge chairs. Food was lousy but it was still well worth the visit!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 6th floor

The Gamboa Rainforest Resort has a lot of charm. The 2 or 3 story glass windows in
the Lobby with views of the Chagres River & mountains are stunning.
The rooms are large with a nice size balcony and hammock. Perfect for
bird watching. My friend saw 20 different species in an hour.
However, the room needs a good scrubbing. The bedding and bathroom were
fine. But the outlets very grimy, the sheers that were once white, now a
dark color. Dust on the lamp shades.
Also, the Resort needs to be painted on the outside and in. All in all
very easy to rectify.
It was Carnival & the resort had a show that was good. I am a
vegetarian, so for me there was not much to eat but salads for dinner.
Breakfast had a variety of food, both hot & cold.
The pool was lovely with lounge chairs with umbrellas.
