The aerial tram ride provided a view of the treetops. The tour guides were friendly and informative. Atop the tower we had a beautiful landscape view of the canal and Rio Chagres. However, except for two or three small toucans, the trip was uninteresting.

My mom came almost 20 years ago and the ride was magical, full of animals and incredibly different, not so anymore.

For almost $200 US, three adults and one child, we boarded a small basket with three rows for a 7 min ride above the trees. We saw one bird the entire time. While animal observations are hit or miss, what we understood from our guide is that you really don't see many animals anymore. After the 7 min ride, we had to walk up a tower full of ramps to an observation deck. The views were amazing. You could see the river, the canal, large boats coming from the locks crossing, etc. However, we stayed there 5 mins, walked down the ramps, boarded the little basket and came back to the starting point. I think we payed a little extra and went to the "exhibitions". The exhibitions were: an area were we saw sloths - actually kind of interesting, a butterfly enclosure - lots of butterflies, an area full of frogs, and a small animal rescue center.

While the exhibitions were not incredibly impressive, at least we learned something and got to see something at the end.

I think if you have made the trip to Gamboa, and you have small kids, then sure, do it. I think little kids will get a kick out of the whole experience. However, if you are staying in Panama City, and wondering if you should dole out $100+/person for this, keep your money. There are amazing views all over the city and if you go to the Miraflores locks, you'll get to see and learn plenty about the canal. You will not miss anything trucking up to Gamboa for the tram tour.

Incidentally, we did the boat and the tram tour at Gamboa (revewing the boat separately). We found a local Uber guy, paid him $150 for the day, he drove us to Gamboa and waited for us the whole day, i booked the tours online at the Gamboa website and saved over $200 versus booking the tours that pick you up at the hotel and charge $157 each. Still though, not sure we got our money's worth.

PS LOTS of bug spray required; it wasn't bad but we definitely got bitten even with the bug spray

This adventure has it all. At the top there is a good walk up to a viewing point, slopes, not stairs. The lush rainforest canopy viewed from above with the Canal below is truly breathtaking. We saw howler and capuchin monkeys, poinsettia, orchids and jacaranda trees in bloom.

We did the aerial tour at Gamboa Rainforest Resort. Our guides were well versed in the multitude of plants growing in the forest and identified many blooms for us. They were not bird experts, but were able to ID a few species for us. It was fun and a way to get a different perspective of the rain forest, without zip lines. Great views of the surrounding area from the tower.

The tour is advertised as an aerial tram through the tree top rainforest to see exotic animals. The tram ride was a disappointment as we didn't see a single animal. You basically ride up through the trees and get off to walk up the 9 story tower. The walk up is not as bad as it sounds since you use a ramp rather than stairs. The view from the tower is very nice all the way around. You can see the Panama canal down below. Thankfully when we reached the bottom we were taken to the animal sanctuary where we saw sloths, monkeys, leopard cubs, exotic frogs, an anteater and butterflies. The large blue butterflies are the most beautiful but also the most difficult to photograph since they rarely stop. Overall, still a nice tour.
