“Very friendly comfortable hotel with warm and pleasant staff.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2012

This a good hotel offering a warm welcome and a comfortable stay for any traveller. There have been negative comments regarding the "value for money restaraunt", and whilst the charge for evening meal is high it is no different from so many other establishments, the difference being that I believe the chef is really trying to find his feet and whilst the depth of flavour is no quite there I do think that it is an intelligent menu with a real effort to deliver, both rear and front of house, this will come over time and I do see this being a local gourmet attraction.
All in all we found the location good the staff helpful and a very enjoyable stay.

My husband and I have just returned from a long weekend away to this wonderful Country House Hotel, This was our forth visit in as many years and once again we were not let down. On this visit we took along family members to enjoy a truly relaxing weekend. From the moment of our arrival to our saying goodbye our every whim was catered for. It seems nothing is to much trouble for the owners James and Sara. From the usual expected request of flowers and champagne in our room on arrival to the very late request of “Is it okay for us to stay an extra night” was accommodated with there usual professional and friendly manner. My biggest compliment would be to say it’s like visiting a family member who spoils you rotten. Our room was beautiful and spacey in the newly extended part of the Hotel. The walk in wet room was a dream and the jacuzzi was for me the icing on the cake. The waiting staff in the dining room are courteous, professional and friendly in just the right mix and a special mention must go to Gary and Katie.Gary makes a tireless job of making it seem as though his only wish in life is to make sure your stay is has perfect as possible and Katie who agreed to not having her evening off to wait the table because we had extended our stay at such short notice. What a star. If you want a day out and you’re not sure what you want to do a quick word with James or Sara and they're more than happy to personally recommend places to visit, these places are always a treat. James has amazing knowledge of the surrounding area and is more than happy to share his knowledge with you. The bar and lounge area with the real roaring coal fire are just what you need at the end of your evening. Total bliss. It only leaves me to mention the food. The breakfast is locally sourced and on eating the my Full Cornish breakfast I was transported back to my childhood memories of “real bacon”. The evening meal is the equivalent of eating in a top class restaurant in London (which I’ve done often) at a fraction of the price. I can only advise you to go and try for yourself you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Have a look at the web site and look at the rooms what you see is what you get.

My husband and I have just returned from a lovely "early Valentine" weekend away in the lovely Rose-in-Vale country hotel. Jackie on reception was very welcoming and we appreciated being shown to our room and facilities explained.
Our room was a basic double but very roomy and we had a couple of very good night sleeps as the bed was huge and very comfortable. Ensuite shower was powerful and a good size bathroom. Ample parking at the back of the hotel.
We walked the grounds on the Saturday and enjoyed the peaceful location with a pond with ducks. Lots of bird life.
Breakfast in the morning was more than ample with a good selection of fresh fruits/cereal/pastries and the full Cornish breakfast was perfect. The waiting staff are very professional and accommodating.
The restaurant/bar are quite expensive but on reading reviews of the hotel prior to staying we opted on both nights to walk a very short distance to the Miners Arms and had two lovelies homecooked meals - real ale available and open fires - definitely worth a visit - staff are very friendly as are the locals
The hotel is tucked away which is why is was so peaceful but close enough to St Agnus only a 5 min car journey and within easy reach of many attractions and beaches
We will definitely be returning to the hotel when next in the area

Room Tip: We stayed in room 7 and were more than happy with the location

This is the first time that I have put a review on here but I felt the need to as I really do think it is beautiful. The service was really good especially from the head waiter, he was lovely and really helpful (unfortunately he was not there on the last day so we could not tell him and leave him a tip).

Me and my partner brought a groupon voucher and decided to visit for the weekend 27th jan until 29th jan 2012. After a 5hour trip we were warmly greeted and shown to our room. After unpacking and sorting the dog out we decided to order some sandwiches on room service, they were very ovr priced but very nice. In the evening we had dinner at the hotel (again this was very nice but very very over priced) the owner was behind the bar and seamed very nice too. As always the drink was very nice but again over priced ( that is the last time I will say that). The food was beautifully cooked.

Tip for anyone that visits here ...... The pub up the road and only 3 minuets walk (you turn left out of the hotel) I will warn you to take a touch, is amazing very good value and they accepted dogs in 1 part of it. All the staff were lovely too. We even saw 2 over couples that were staying at the hotel there.

Overall we both said that we would love to go back!!!! Something for everyone x x x x

Thanks for a brilliant weekend

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment regarding your stay at the Rose in Vale.

I am pleased that you enjoyed your time with us and that you had a brilliant weekend.

I am surprised that you felt our restaurant was expensive. Our Rosetted restaurant offers canapés followed by an appetiser and then either two or three courses. These are charged at £25.95 or £32.50 per person respectively. We would love to offer our food at a lower price, however, local fresh food is more expensive than pre prepared frozen food that many places serve, which is reflected in the price. Our regular guests expect to eat the best of fresh local produce which Cornwall is renowned for. We are constantly working with our suppliers to ensure that we are offering the best possible value.

On Saturday nights our resident pianist plays which creates a really lovely ambiance in the restaurant. It is all in line with what you would expect from a luxury three star hotel such as the Rose in Vale.

Obviously “pub grub” will always be cheaper as it is a totally different type and style of offering.

I am pleased that you used the Groupon system as an introduction to the Rose in Vale and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.
