“Lovely house in great location!”
Reviewed 16 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

When we arrived Roderick was at the house to meet us, and was extremely helpful and a very likeable person.

The house and garden are fantastic, the location is extremely peaceful with lovely views, and there are plenty of places to sit and relax, or for children to explore.

The area is lovely, with the Arrabida mountains and sandy beaches close by, and Setubal with its fantastic Livramento fish market only 15 minutes away. It is also near enough to visit Lisbon, and the national palaces at Sintra, which are both great destinations.

A holiday here offers something for people of all ages, and we would thoroughly recommend it.

A big thank you to Cristina and Roderick - we will be back!

“Our Favourite Place”

We have recently returned from our third visit to this lovely house in the beautiful Serra Arrabida, and as we rarely visit places more then once, this is a compliment indeed! We originally stumbled across this property after visiting Lisbon and wanting to explore the surrounding area. The property is an easy 45 minute drive from the airport and although we initially struggled to find the property, it is actually relatively straight forward.

It is in an extremely peaceful location, and the photographs do truly reflect the tranquil, secluded setting. The house is very nicely decorated with a combination of English and Portuguese influences and the owners have truly tried to think of everything you might reasonably wish to have. Roderick has greeted us on each occasion we have visited and thoughtfully brought some basic supplies plus a few treats! Both before and during our stay he and Cristina have endeavoured to answer all our questions and help with any problems we may have.

We are a family of 5 with 3 early teenage children and the holiday has on all three occasions provided us with the peace and tranquillity to relax. We have split our time between the villa and trips to the surrounding area. The local beaches are about a 20 minute drive away, all very picturesque bays with white sandy beaches. The beaches are more protected than those facing Atlantic, which makes them more suitable for younger children. We also visited the Setubal peninsula on this trip upon Roderick's recommendation and were blown away by the miles of white sandy beaches. We lunched in a Moroccan inspired restaurant on the beach with day beds and hammocks, doesn't get much more perfect than that! The only slight problem we've sometimes experienced on the beaches has been the wind, which was a welcome relief in August but a little bracing in May.

There are many other places to visit in the area, including the quaint local town which has a few cafes, bars and restaurants, but is certainly not touristy. The wine tour of José Maria Da Fonseca in the town is certainly worth a trip, as is Palmela castle and of course a day out in Lisbon.

However the real beauty of the holiday for us is the house and its environs and its ability to allow you to relax (and read, read & read!). We always come stocked with DVDs and box sets so enjoy our nights in as much as our days out, the new larger TV was a welcome addition this time. It does really feel like your own home away from home.

We can thoroughly recommend this holiday.

“A hidden gem.”
Reviewed 16 April 2013 for a stay in April 2013

My husband and I stayed here with our 5 yr old twins for a week during the recent Easter holidays. The weather in the UK was so cold we flew south for some sun!

Booking the property was easy, Cristina was very good at replying to e-mails and her British husband Roderick met us at the house and showed us around.

The drive from Lisbon was pretty straightforward until you get to the real "off road" stuff but we did get there after a few wrong turns!

The property looks like the photos, which is a good sign!

Our girls had the twin room which is on the top floor and I was pleased there was a stair gate as the stairs are steep and tiled- but the girls managed them all week.

I wouldn't take children much younger than 5 because of the stairs though, I have to say.

The other double bedrooms were charming and beds comfortable, plenty of clothes storage and hanging space, lots of towels provided.

The kitchen is large and well equipped with all sorts of plates and pots and pans, the fridge large, the wood burner a nice thing to have going first thing in the morning. We mentioned we like our coffee and Roderick had supplied a Nespresso type machine, which was thoughtful!

The doors from the kitchen lead onto the garden so the girls were very happy racing in and out, and the pool is fenced off well, so I felt happy they couldn't stray. It was good that there were some outdoor toys there such as footballs and a badminton set, the girls were delighted to kick a ball about in the sun.

The views are breathtaking and the tranquility is extraordinary.

We did do a bit of exploring, the country park is gorgeous, with a very dramatic drive looking over the atlantic coast.
We were very happy pottering about for a week, and could see that in a warmer season the pool would come into its own. We had one bbq while we were there, it is a built in one on the side of the garden and it was a treat.

The TV is a little basic and I was glad I had packed a couple of DVD's for the girls to watch - couldn't find an English speaking children's channel (but that may have just been me!)
Also there is only a shower which is ok but just sometimes I wanted a bath for the girls to calm them into bedtime as part of their routine-again, as the kids get older this isn't really an issue.

I was happy to browse a large selection of Tatler and Vogue that were in the living room!

The nearby town is worth a wander, we had coffee and cake there of an afternoon, and if we hadn't had the girls with us we would have certainly done the wine tour at the local vineyard. As it was, we sampled their wines happily enough! There is an Intermarche there for shopping.

Overall we would recommend this property to young families, or families with teenagers who are happy to swim and hang out.

On the flight home, I asked the twins what their favourite part of the holiday was and they said "playing in the garden" which pretty much sums it up!

We really enjoyed our stay, it suited us really well- we relaxed, we unwound, we enjoyed.

“Total relaxation in a beautiful setting”

We were so lucky to stumble across this amazing property after I did hours of research to find the perfect place for our honeymoon. We wanted somewhere secluded and quiet but within easy reach of restaurants and beaches and this place ticks all the boxes.
We were greeted at the property by the owner and she was unbelievably hospitable. She walked us through the house, answered all of our questions and then even offered to drive to the local supermarket so we could follow her and find out where it is. In the booking process, she also very patiently answered all the questions I emailed her, she couldn’t of been nicer.

The house is beautifully designed in a gorgeous setting, and the garden and pool area have all amenities that you would need for lounging by the pool and eating outdoors. We used the bbq twice and enjoyed the delicious and incredibly reasonably priced seafood restaurants in Sesimbra and Setubal the other nights.
We spent a couple of days by the beach but this place is so relaxing that we were happiest just lying by the pool all day. If you are looking for somewhere to completely unwind this is the place. It’s perfect for young families also as the pool is completely fenced off .
We cannot say enough good things about the place, we had the perfect holiday and will definitely be back.
