We started our trip to Sao Miguel at the Octant Furnas. It’s about a 45 min drive from the airport and in the hills. Very lush and some amazing fumaroles are a short walk away.
The room was good sized. Except the desk which was tiny. But there was other space for working in the lobby/bar. The mini bar was stocked with juices and sodas. There was a coffee maker as well. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked well.
The bathroom was spacious. The shower had full sized shampoo and shower gel and a small bottle of conditioner. Towels were giant. Bathroom and room show their age a bit with cracked mirror and some mold (it’s a humid area).
The pool and saunas were great. There is an indoor and outdoor pool both filled with spring fed water. It’s nice and warm but the color can throw you off since it’s brownish red (iron and minerals). There are plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas for the pools. The only con on the pool is the road that runs behind it car noise). The sauna was great!
I enjoyed the tea that is at the front desk, quite refreshing. The team at the hotel was all very friendly and helpful, especially the guy working the pool area and the restaurant hostess.
The location is great as it’s near hiking areas, hot springs, and walking distance to multiple restaurants. There is free parking in front of the hotel.
