“Fabulous! ”
Reviewed 16 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

A group of 9 from the UK and Ireland for a week in June

This house is as good as it looks in the photos. The rooms are spacious and airy, very well equipped and 3 of the 5 have bathrooms have en-suites with showers. The main shared bathroom is very large and roomy, with a shower, loo and double basins. There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms or air-con but we didn’t need either.

We had the upstairs bedroom with a private terrace and great views across the countryside, the bed was big and very comfortable. One small gripe was maybe more shelf space for your clothes (there was a chest of drawers or a hanging cupboard, but I find shelves easier). The bathroom was great with a walk in shower and separate bath, double basins and loo.

There are 4 bedrooms downstairs with twin beds, they are very spacious and 2 of them have doors leading out onto the terrace.

The lounge is comfortable particularly if you want to get out of the heat of the sun or if the weather is a bit cooler, it’s a great space to relax. The sound system was not adequate but I am sure the owner will get that sorted, we didn’t watch TV but it was there if you wanted it.
The wifi is excellent, good mobile phone signals too - no problem at all.

The kitchen is great especially if you have more than one keen cook, my friends and husband could happily chop / spice / cook / generally putter without getting in each other’s way and we enjoyed many a good meal there. Also it’s brilliant that they have 2 fridge/freezers, a large group needs the extra storage and space was never a problem.

Then there’s the pool – it is awesome. Salt-water, infinity, warm but not too warm – it’s just pure heaven. There are loads of pool loungers to relax on and new umbrellas for shade – it’s idyllic. The back garden & pool area is not overlooked and private enough should you fancy a skinny dip.

There is also a big built-in charcoal / wood BBQ outside, and we spent many a happy hour under the shaded terrace where there’s a large table with plenty of seating and loads of cushions.

For provisions the nearby Lidl, a 5 minute drive into town has almost everything you will need. Otherwise there is a very big Continente supermarket in Loule with an excellent butchery and huge wine selection. Portuguese wine is really very under-rated and we also loved their lemon-beers – refreshing on hot days.

There was a file in the house with information about local restaurants and places to go, and I think it also had the GPS code for the house.
Mary-lu the housekeeper was helpful and friendly, she is a good source of information, and Tamar gave us great info about car hire and local knowledge.

We had a lovely holiday here and I can definitely recommend it.

“A truly wonderful place to stay in the Algarve!”

We were a group of eleven senior longtime friends from Canada and the U.S.A. who had a reunion at this wonderful villa the last week of April and the first week of May 2015. We arrived at various hours the first day and were thrilled to find a fridge full of food, wine, beer, trays of tapas, and a cake to nibble on until the evening. Also welcoming us were bouquets of flowers throughout the house and a picturesque view over the gardens and hills beyond. What a lovely way to start our holiday!

The house and pool are as shown on the websites and they are immaculately clean. The appliances are modern, including a dishwasher, washing machine and two refrigerators. They have recently done upgrades in the bathrooms and the master bedroom has a wonderful new king size bed. The long pool and surrounds have also been renovated this year and are lovely. We were the first to use it and swam laps morning, noon and evening so gave it a good launching!

Marylu, the local property manager, came by often to see how we were doing and was also accessible via phone if needed; she speaks English fluently and is charming, professional and efficient. She has also compiled a very complete binder filled with information about the house, the area, restaurants, etc. Adelia, the housekeeper, is also great, speaks French as well as Spanish, and a little English. She comes in twice a week to change linens and clean. She is also a chef who cooked in France for many years and upon request will shop for and prepare meals for very reasonable prices; we enjoyed her cooking on two evenings, for one of which she also baked a birthday cake! We also appreciated her flower arrangements.

The owner who had been at the villa from Britain just before us left us a note suggesting that we might like to eat that first evening at Luis dos Frangos in Sao Bras de Alportel. We were grateful for his suggestion and enjoyed an amazing simple meal of chicken cooked over coals (salad and fries) at incredibly low cost, under 5 euros each! They also serve other meals and needless to say we made a return visit later in our stay. We tried a number of good restaurants in the area, of particular note was Restaurante Monte da Eira in Clareanes which is just a few kilometers north of Loule. Another favorite place was the bakery/tea and coffee shop just down the road; their hot chocolate is amazing too. We found it when exploring by foot the lane behind the villa. We followed it until it went down the hill between houses with many dogs barking and out onto a paved road, turned right and there was Tesouros da Serra. It can also be reached by taking the first left turn (at the recycling bins) after turning onto N2 from the villa's lane. We made many daytime visits and one evening the owner served us a tapas dinner outdoors on the property near their 2000 year old olive tree behind the bakery and adjoining hotel - very romantic.

We are all walkers so enjoyed the local lane ways, the wild flowers, trees, and views. There is easy shopping for groceries and souvenirs 5 minutes away by car in Sao Bras de Alportel. We not only used the Saturday market there but also a number of bakeries and butchers. The villa is in a very quiet, restful location, away from tourism, in which to relax and from which to explore surrounding areas. Some sights easily reached were a number of beaches, the Saturday market in Loule, the church in Santa Barbara de Nexe, and the tourist train tour of Tavira.

I should add that it helps to know, driving out of the Faro airport, that N2 is found by taking the signs for A1. As well one should note that the ads say the villa sleeps eleven but the 11th bed was an old sofabed unsuitable for comfortable sleeping.(Fortunately, Marylu managed to bring us a lovely temporary bed for our 11th senior.) Also be aware that when renting the villa there is a refundable breakages fee of 200 pounds and a fee if one wants the pool heated.
We would certainly like to return some day to Quinta San Antonio where we felt very much at home and highly recommend it to others.

“Peace in the sun”

We are a family group of nine adults and we stayed at the villa in late May/June 2015. The villa is about 20 minutes from the airport but miles away from hustle. We have to say that this is one of the nicest villas we have stayed at with 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. There is plenty of room both inside and out for all you would like to do on holiday. The pool is excellent and the area around has both space and shade.
One of the staff at the villa is an experienced chef and cooks for the guests and this is well worth it, all you pay for is the time she takes and the food she supply's. The villa is very close to all the supermarkets in the local town and there are two fridge freezers to stock up so it reduces the need to shop regular.
The villa is a place of peace and tranquility and well worth the cost and a place we would recommend and re-visit

“Fabulous villa on fabulous surroundings”

The beauty of this villa is that it is away from the hubbub and mania of the seaside resorts. Up here in the hills you find the real Portugal. We used the villa this time for a cycling trip. My husband Mike and our friend Maurice did 5 rides varying in length from 45 miles to 80 miles. Sheila and I provided the vehicle back up and joined them for coffee and lunch. The scenery was stunning. Most days we were able to count the number of cars we saw on the fingers of one hand. Then the joy of returning to the villa in the afternoon to enjoy the heated pool, a barbecue on the terrace or simply to sit and enjoy the views. The villa is finished to the highest standards and you would have difficulty finding anything to improve on. We will be back.
