Fairly good hotel with some improvements

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 weeks ago
This was our first summer family holiday with our 10 month old baby. The hotel was based on a big complex, but easily walking distance around the complex to get to swimming pools, restaurant and beach etc. the beach access was gated and we used our room key to gain access which felt be try secure. For some reason there were no sunbeds on the beach - unsure if it was wrong time of year or if hotel did not provide them? And we left the pram in the room as it’s was so many steps down to the beach (much easier to carry baby rather than the pram too!) main restaurant was fairly big, but not all areas were opened as it was getting busy. Plenty of highchairs available. Food was okay but there was lots of repeats in terms of what food was being served which was disappointed. Lots of variety at breakfast. Smaller restaurant by the second pool, again same selection of foods really. Drinks were good, but I found that lots of staff were struggling to understand what we were ordering. Also did not seem to be many bar staff on so took a long time to be served. Room was nice, travel cot all set up on arrival and was super comfy for our little one. We decided to get an Uber to and from Albufeira and the hotel as there was only one bus to and from which meant you spend hours there (which we didn’t want to do.) lots of different daytime entertainment. We didn’t see evening entertainment purely because this started quite late especially for the kids entertainment. Transfers to and from airport very good. Room was always clean and tidy. A few other bits of kids (just not for our little one as he was too young.) swimming pools did seem very cold but possibly as it didn’t have much sunlight on it to warm up! Generally a good hotel

We cannot recommend AP Adriana enough! We arrived at midnight and were given sandwiches, fruit and a drink which were very welcomed at that time! A porter took us to our room in a golf buggy and helped with cases / made sure room keys were working etc.

The room was clean, spacious and comfortable with a very good sized balcony.

The food was plentiful - we all (2adults /2children) found plenty to enjoy each meal time. There was always a hot vegetarian main dish on the centre display as well as other dishes on the hot plates / pizza for lunch. Food was always of a good temperature. We also ate at The Grill one night which was delicious - they do meat night / fish night - we only did the meat night. You can book via the QR code at reception / on signs around the hotel. There is another restaurant - we did not eat there but booking is via the same QR code.

The main pool was clean and not overly busy - we were there end of July / beginning of August so peak season yet we always got a sunbed without racing to get up ridiculously early and people would leave the pool area after lunch to go out / to the beach so some did become available. There are toilets near the pool area - they are tired and dated but the cleaners do keep them clean.
There is a second pool near The Grill restaurant- we used once and was quieter than the main one but we enjoyed the entertainment at the main pool so tended to stay there.
There is also a children’s splash pad which was lovely - one recommendation I would make to the hotel is to look at the area around it as the grass becomes quite boggy and muddy from the splashes off the pad - maybe some more of the actual pad surface is needed, not just grass in the extended area?

The spa - two parts to this. There is the jacuzzi / sauna / steam room which is underneath the main pool (two ways to get in - there are steps behind the smaller children’s pool at the main pool or continue past the toilets / shower rooms - both bring you to the same place. You can book to use as part of the AI package. We didn’t use but had a look and it looked nice!
The other spa is where massages can be booked (chargeable but reasonable) - this is down the ramp opposite kids club / near the splash pad). I had an incredible massage and would recommend!

The beach is gorgeous- yes there are lots of steps but the hotel is on the top of a cliff! We definitely recommend watching the sunset from the top of the cliff - incredible!

There is a shop onsite for essentials and souvenirs- not overly expensive.

Drinks were plentiful and bar staff fab - you need to ask Carla to make you a special - Carla is fab but all bar staff friendly and great with the kids! Reception staff and restaurant staff lovely too.

Finally, the entertainment team. They are incredible and how they have the energy they do to go all day is beyond me! Our children didn’t go to the kids club (we like to spend our holidays together) but did join in with the children’s games round the pool, the aqua aerobics, the 10am and 3pm dance, and cheered us on in the adult games. I’m not normally one for getting involved in things like this on holiday (prefer being in the pool or on the sunbed reading!) but here, I enjoyed every minute! The evening entertainment is also superb especially the white party. They also have people in for shows at 7.30pm, before the mini disco (which starts at 8.30am) from local companies such as birds / reptiles/ parrots) - sometimes they do the 7.30pm entertainment themselves as well. I honestly can’t fault them. An extra special shout out to Muss and Richard who go above and beyond and who we already miss terribly - we hope they are both back next year!

We had the best holiday to AP Adriana and cannot wait to return for longer in 2025!

All around a good exerience, would recommend for familys.

Nice location, beach front at low tide was great, pools, resturaunt and bars were never to full, easy shuttle too Albufera if your feeling brave, place was tidy and well kept.

Food was nice although could have done with a vegetarian main option at dinner each day as only occasionally did they do one eg Pizza I think 2 days out of the 7, but enough options to keep us fed, plenty if you eat Meat/fish, also a good choice of drinks and cocktails with the all inclusive option.

Stand out alongside the location was the staff who went above and beyond, generally not a fan of entertainment teams but the hours and effort these guys put in without being intrusive was very commendable, special shout out too Rogerio and Patricica who really looked after our son, although all of the team did great as did the staff in other areas, bar/spa/reception could not do enough to help.

Second time visiting the Adriana and it’s perfect for us. Travelling with a 17 year old it’s difficult to find somewhere that’s not overrun with kids activities and not a stuffy adult only all inclusive but this hotel offers the best of both worlds. We used the smaller pool area in the day. Never battled for a sunbed and lots of shade with the grill and bar on hand for breakfast lunch snacks and drinks. The large pool area had more activities on but we didn’t use it. We used the main restaurant in the evening and the main bar with the entertainment. Food was good. Always meat fish pasta salads and fruit and deserts. Good selection of drinks not all included in the all inclusive but there was plenty and named brands too. We like the cocktails and the sangaria on tapThe only issue was the drinks machines were a bit temperamental sometimes. Beer wine soft drinks juices hot drinks and water all available via the machines. The hotel is 1/2 way between Villamoura and Albufeira. There is a courtesy bus but we chose to walk across the beach to Villamoura (probably 2-3 miles). Beach was gorgeous but steep steps down if you have mobility issues. Rooms were comfortable and cleaned every day. It was ready on arrival at 10am. WiFi was good in the room but a bit patchy elsewhere. Staff seemed friendly and worked hard. The grounds are beautifully maintained and clean. We will definately be returning

Overall this holiday was a complete disappointment. The resort is good, I can’t say otherwise, but everything else was very bad. The food is sometimes served cold, it’s far from the old town and the entertainment team is poor.
There wasn’t a fun night of entertainment in our stay. The kids hated the kids club and the mini discos were poorly made.
Not returning!
