After finding family-owned and -operated Villas Natura online during winter 2016 and communicating with property manager Dimitris Gabras several times, we reserved directly and paid our deposit. The website presents the villas accurately and we found no surprises (other than very pleasant ones, nuances we had not expected, but found there!). During the following months between booking and our departure to Naxos, every time we contacted Dimitris with a question, the response was immediate and thorough. We arrived Naxos on August 24th and Dimitris met us at the airport and helped transport our luggage (we had rented a smaller vehicle and there were four adults and all of our luggage). First, Dimitris asked us to follow him into the port as he was picking up sausage for a barbecue for us and the other villa renters that very night. Although we had flown all night the previous night from Boson and were exhausted, the sentiment was so sweet, we could not possibly decline.
After Dimitris familiarized us with our wonderful 2-bedroom villa, we dropped luggage and it was time to head over to tour welcome dinner where Dimitris' entire family and the other villa renters from Italy) were already assembled. The spaghetti the Italians made was absolutely delicious and the grilled, freshly-made sausage (Loukaniko) was incredibly high quality and delicious. There was a very fresh tomato salad and Dimitris' father's home vintage of red wine. After we ate heartily (every time my plate was emptied, it was promptly re-filled) we told them we were leaving, when and were told that Dimitris' mother (an architect, who designed the villa complex) was cooking a chicken for everyone! We had a really fun time with our new neighbors, we met Dimitris' entire family and, after this welcoming celebration, were ready for sleep. We had been embraced by this wonderfully warm, friendly family unlike we have ever been anywhere else; it was unexpected but heartwarming.
We had a little time before bed to get settled and explore the villa, which was wonderful — immaculate, well-designed and exactly as described, with every possible amenity a visitor to Naxos could ask for. The construction quality was excellent and no corners were cut in its construction; the windows and doors were of a very high quality and we loved that we each had our own private sitting area outside the bedroom. The bed was very comfortable, the sheets were soft and bright white, there was an incredible amount of storage area as well as a safe for valuables. The bathroom was simple but had everything we needed. The villa was ultra-quiet and we all slept incredibly well and woke up later than usual the next morning. On the back porch, we found a freshly baked and delicious loaf of bread (every single morning)! The kitchen was completely outfitted with a bottle of Dimitris' father's home vintage wine, fresh local jam, bottled water, cream for coffee and other thoughtful touches. There was an ample parking area, nice flower and vegetable gardens, even a security gate! At night, the pool and grounds were well-lit and there was ample lighting available if one wanted additional light for any reason.
We all spent the first day by the sparkling clean pool. The way the four villas are arranged (we were in Sand Lily), we had a tremendous amount of privacy not only while at our pool, but even the walkways were designed to provide a large degree of privacy. The terrain surrounding the villa complex consisted of a relatively barren hillside in one direction, flower gardens and the cerulean Aegean in the other direction looking toward the popular Mikri Vigla beach, which was about five minutes away (as were several other tavernas, bakeries, markets and other purveyors). We greatly enjoyed our "pool day" and the weather was perfect. The housekeeper was discreet and thorough; we hardly even knew she was there except in the morning when she ensured that the walkways and patios were free of leaves and everything was spotless, trash emptied, beds made, floors mopped, fresh towels left and bed linens were changed every other day. Without exception, every day Dimitris made sure each pool was absolutely dazzlingly clean, the housekeeper kept our villa spotless and supplied with everything needed. One day, Dimitris' brother brought us a tremendous watermelon, which was quite thoughtful. It was absolutely delicious and so very fresh, we ate it at one sitting. On another afternoon, we came home to a very sweet note on our door inviting us, yet again, to a guest barbecue as new guests were arriving. This was an incredible example of both Greek hospitality and a very friendly way to welcome each new set of villa renters.
One day rolled into the next, as they do on vacation. We left for the beach, spent the day exploring the area, sunbathing at Mikri Vigla and Agia Anna, exploring the alpine towns of Halki, Filoti and Apiranthos, stopping here and there for freddo espresso, eating out at area restaurants. One evening we drove down to Aliki to the Cedar Forest for sunset and then dinner at a local taverna. Each night we came home to the ultra-quiet villa complex, not a sound, just stars, the moon and serenity.
Throughout our entire week-long stay, Dimitris was always available to us and could be found morning always ensuring each private pool was crystal clear and saw to anything requiring attention. Whatever questions we had were answered thoroughly and promptly; Dimitris was extremely thoughtful and his non-stop maintenance keeps the four villas and grounds in perfect condition at all times. We took note of the great satisfaction fellow renters had with their respective villas. After a half week, we truly felt as if we were "home" here at Villas Natura in Mikri Vigla. There really was nothing else we could have asked for to increase our level of comfort. We had tremendous privacy, although all the villas were rented, it was peaceful and serene at all times; necessary work was done discreetly so we never felt our privacy was being impinged upon whatsoever.
We have stayed on Naxos for the past four years, staying at highly acclaimed hotels and a leading villa complex near Mikri Vigla. By far, Villas Natura exceeded all of these three stays by a considerable margin. I highly recommend Villas Natura as being a high-value and supremely comfortable collection of rental villas; there are two sizes available. The Gabras family — each and every member, played a role in ensuring guests had the ultimate Naxian holiday. From assuring our safe and comfortable arrival, seeing that we were settled (and even fed our first welcoming meal), providing an orientation to the property, answering any questions we had to arranging regular barbecues to welcome new guests, assuring that the pool and grounds were perfectly spotless, functioning and manicured to providing fresh linens, housekeeping, thoughtful items such as daily bread, fresh fruit and stopping to ensure we did not need anything or just to say hello, Dimitris was the perfect host (as well as his family). In summary, I would say that Villas Natura delivered a highly comfortable, satisfying and memorable Naxian holiday! We plan to return again in 2017!
