Have just come back from chania.
Stayed in room 2166 which is on the other side of the road. Would recommend staying this side. Much quiter and a nice small pool.

The staff were friendly. The animation team were fantastic. Worked really hard and provided plenty of fun.

Zara was amazing really helpful and always up for a chat.

Pool was a bit cold but other than that plenty of sunbeds.

Food was lovely. Plenty of choice and plenty of alcohol! :)

Went on 2 excursions. I would recommend eleffiansie. Beautiful beach.

Overall an amazing holiday and would definitely go again.

We stayed here in September 2011 for our honeymoon.

We booked a swim up room and would definitely recommend this. We had room 2302 which was across the road in the quieter part of the hotel. We shared our pool with another 3 apartments. You have a lovely terrace area so although you are sharing the pool it still feels private.

As we had a swim up room we didn't use the main pools - however each time we walked past there seemed to be spare beds at both the busier main pool and at the quieter pool across the road.

The room was nicely furnished - large tv & dvd player (we didn't watch tv but there seemed to be a lot of channels you could have watched if you wanted to inc bbc world) the bed is probably one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in!! and the bathroom has a lovely shower. You also have a safe in the room which is free. One evening I put in the wrong code when I locked the safe and couldn't open it again - we called reception and someone from maintenance came over straight away to resolve the problem. The rooms were cleaned every day and maids really friendly. The room was perfect for the 2 of us but may be a little small for a family as there wasn't a lot of space for clothes etc.

The food at the hotel was very nice - with different themed nights - our favourite was Asian cuisine. It does begin to get a little repetitive by the end of the 2nd week but the quality was always good. Breakfast was very nice - plenty of different choices including cooked breakfast, pancakes, greek yoghurt, fruit and cereals. Most of the seating is outside and tables were cleared and relaid really quickly.

We only had lunch in the restaurant twice - it was very nice but similiar food to what is served in the evening so we chose to have greek salad/ pasta/ hamburger/ hot dog from the pool bars instead. We hired a car for 3 days and the hotel provided packed lunches that we could collect at breakfast.

The cocktails were very nice (lots to choose from and plenty of alcohol in them!) and you could get them from 10am - midnight. All the bar and restaurant staff work very hard they never seem to stop - and there were always managers present who also worked hard to ensure everything was running smoothly.

The beach was ok - not one of the best I have been to but it was convenient to have free sunbeds and umbrellas - the beach is quite pebbly so would recommend that you get shoes you can wear into the sea. When we hired the car we found a few lovely beaches close by. Mithinia (I think this is what it's called! or something very similiar) was our favourite - it's just pass Souda bay and worth a visit.

There isn't a lot in Gerani - just a couple shops and tavernas. We walked into the next resort Platanias (20 - 30 min walk - shops etc along the way - a taxi to the centre is 7euros) and there are plenty of shops and restaurants. We did eat out one night in Platanias - it was a lovely meal but it was quite pricey - a meal for 2 and a bottle of wine was nearly 50euros.

The reception staff were very helpful and polite.

Zara the first choice rep was amazing - she is there most of the time and is really approachable and genuinely seems to want you to get the most out of your holiday.

We didn't book any of the trips with first choice as we went to most of the places we wanted to by car. We did go on the train, which stops just outside the hotel, a couple of times and this takes you to a few different places - I'd recommend this as it is a fraction of the cost of the first choice trips but you still get to see some amazing places up in the mountains and you also have a guide. The lady we bought the tickets from was really helpful and gave us some tips on places to visit etc.

We didn't go to any of the entertainment but the team seemed to be working really hard throughout the day.

We used the wifi on a couple times and found that you had to be in the reception/ bar area within the hotel to be able to log on as it doesn't work across the road. We didn't find this a problem but it may be a problem for others.

Please don't let any of the negative reviews put you off staying here - it was everything we wanted.

Overall great accommodation & friendly helpful staff.

Room Tip: The rooms across the road are much quieter and you are still within easy walking distance to reception & the bars.

Having just read the previous review about the awful food, bad drinks and excessive noise I could't believe that we had stayed in the same place at practically the same time. We had a totally different experience travelling with our 2 year old and would definitely recommend the hotel for those travelling with young children. The complex is very family orientated, plenty of highchairs, great childrens play areas and lots of staff who love children.

The food was very good - plenty of choice and lots of authentic greek dishes, plus there was also a good choice for young children. Our little girl ate really well for the entire week we were there as there was plenty of choice of fresh fruit, vegetables and other child friendly food to keep her happy.

The staff in the pool bar were amazing, really quick service, nice strong cocktails and a good range of coffees for those who need a caffiene fix. They also love children and treated our daughter like royalty....

I agree, the sea view rooms can be a bit noisy with the evening shows - but after all people are on holiday and can't be expected not to make any noise in the evenings. We were in room 3111 - which was very close to the evening entertainment - but after the first night, we adjusted to the level of noise and can honestly say that neither us or our little girl lost any sleep! If you do need a quiet room though, it may be worth requesting one in the quieter building over the other side of the road. We met some people who had rooms there who said that it was very peaceful.

If you have booked this hotel and have been put off by some of the things you have read, please don't worry this was one of the best holidays that we have had for a long time.

Ps. we found it easy to get a sunbed (although in peak summer, I can see why this may have been a problem for some as it is quite a big hotel!) .

Room Tip: If you have young children, its well worth paying the extra few pounds for a family room - much more space and gives you a separate bedroom, meaning that you can put the little one to bed in the lounge area, close the door and still access the patio/terrace, bathroom etc without having to worry about being in the same room and waking them up.

Stayed at the hotel september 2011. Were supposed to stay there for 7 nights but there is a limit of how much bad food and noice a man/family can bare. Had room 3202. The room was very nice but the beds were hard. The terrace were ok during the day but when night fall the hotel staff started a awful disco/show that lasted til 23.30. The scene only 20 meters away facing my room. Many families had the same problem. With a two year old baby you can Emagine the amount of sleep she got. NONE. The food: tastless an bad all over and crowded. The restaurant "stone Grill" was ok but the rest was so bad I considered starving instead of eating. Hotell staff was not very service minded. Internett did not work. All inclusive was not worth a dime since even the beverage was bad. Local vine tasted as applescented ethanol. STAY AWAY. This is a 2 star resort.
