We stayed here one night as a stopover on the way to the east coast. Having stayed here many years ago, I was happy to see that the hotel has been well maintained. Best feature is the grand view of the Giritale lake specially at sunset. Then the extremely friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way to cater to our 2 year old in preparing special meals. I was impressed with the spread of options available in the buffet meals. Food was very tasty (I tried mostly Sri Lankan dishes) and the freshly made hoppers for breakfast were excellent.
Rooms were quite standard with all amenities and overall our stay was good value for the money we paid (with all 3 meals) which was quite reasonable.

We stayed in this hotel for three nights when doing ancient cities. View from the terrace is good indeed. Otherwise rooms are small, some with ancient AC units rumbling all the time. Definitely needs thorough renovation. Food (breakfast and dinners) are far below average. Also drive to all attractions (except Pollonaruva) is a bit long. Much better to look for a hotel in Habarana area.

Room Tip: Try to get a room located at upper floors. Besst seems to be above swimming pool

Well it's time for a refurbishment to the hotel and new chef is needed who can come up with a better food selection. My first hotel visit in sri lanka which had a western menu for breakfast without omlette. This was my second trip to the hotel since 2000. Rooms now need a rewamp in line to new concepts that are there in new hotels and comparitively hotel looks old now. Staff at the hotel was quite friendly. Refresh towel upon arrival would be ideal to have in the hotel.

The hotel itself is located on a beautiful lake and has a very relaxing feel. The staff were very helpful in making our stay enjoyable. There were, however, a few issues:
1) The hotel, although listed as in Dumbulla, is actually a very long drive away from all of the main attractions (i.e., cultural triangle). It is located on an isolated strip of hotels, so there is not much to do in the area itself.
2) The hotel offers a banquet for all guests, which costs around 2000 rupees per person. This was slightly too expensive for us, so we asked our driver to take us to another restaurant. When our driver returned, he was verbally abused by the owner of the restaurant for "taking away his business". Worse still, the next morning, our driver was running very late to pick us up because his tyre had been slashed, presumably by the restaurant owner who had yelled the night before. The following night, we ate at the hotel restaurant because we didn't want to cause more trouble for our driver, however we promised that we would give this information to prospective travellers so they could make a more informed decision. This was a very upsetting experience for us, as the staff at the hotel were really lovely.
