I am quite surprised about the positive reviews of this hotel. The first impression when you arrive is good: the pool area looks nice and the reception as well. Bad surprise when you arrive in your room: really creepy bathroom, with bad smell and the curtain on the shower. One of the bed had broken axes and the air con is really noisy.
Breakfast really really poor, with food looking old and low quality. Coffee awful.
Cats on the breakfast area with people feeding them... not really hygienic!!!
The position of the hotel is quite strategic if you want to visit the whole area, day and night.
The beach in front of the hotel is not really good.
Bad value for money.

Dear Valuable Guest,

thank you for spending your holidays at Chryssana Beach Hotel and for finding impressive our common areas.
We are very disappointed that you have never reported your complaints to the reception desk that is open 24/7 or to the manager's office directly, for a room change. We are always next to our Guests in order to resolve any issues immediately in the best possible way. In this point we kindly wish to inform you that we have already renovated a number of our bathrooms and we have set as an immediate priority and purpose to refurbish all of them in a short term time period.
Our meals tend to be a plus in comparison to our star class, in purpose to accommodate the most our Guests preferences and our kitchen staff is well trained with many years of experience.
The Hotel is located in the middle of a nature environment and our Guests, being pet's friendly, are always taking special care and attention to this little abandoned visitors.

Thank you very much,
Kind regards,
Aggeliki Hatzigianni

We stayed here for ten days on a room and breakfast deal. The breakfast was good with very nice omelettes, fresh bread, salad, cooked options, cakes and fruit. The pool was lovely, large and clean, with the sea just behind. The sunbeds were very comfortable, but at times there were not quite enough if you were arriving around the pool mid afternoon as they were all taken. Pool towels were provided free of charge from reception, but we only found this out when we saw lots of others with blue towels and asked. Our room was on the ground floor towards the back of the hotel, with minimal 'side sea' views. It was basic but clean, on the small side and had a few small issues. There were no drawers to put clothes and only five coat hangers in the wardrobe (lucky we had bought our own with us). There was no hairdryer or kettle, a small tv, a fridge and a safety deposit box which cost €3.50 per day to hire. The shower was next to the toilet and had a curtain which did not go around the toilet side of the shower, resulting in water all over and around the toilet every time we had a shower. The toilet in our room had a loose wobbly seat which needed fixing and the plug in the basin did not retain the water so it drained out. The phone in our room did not make outside calls but could dial reception. Towels were changed every other day and were often still slightly damp from washing when replaced. The room was cleaned daily to a high standard. There was a good sized balcony with a table and two chairs overlooking the garden which was nice to sit on and read, and there was a mosquito shutter which closed across the doors. The air conditioning was good and kept the room to a cool temperature. The curtains to the balcony let in a lot of light early in the morning. The location of this hotel is good, being quiet and close to the beach. There are two convenience stores close by, and the bus stop to get to Chania is only a few minutes walk away. The bars and tavernas are mainly a 15 minute walk along the beach road, although there is one very close to the exit from the hotel which wasn't open when we were there, so we didn't try it. All the seafront tavernas were good though, and we never had a bad meal. Chania is a beautiful city and is well worth a couple of visits, one for a day trip, and another to see the sunset and then to see it all lit up by night. The bus fares are very good value. If we had paid half the price for this holiday like everyone else we spoke to in the hotel, who also seemed to be on a half board deal with a superior room then we would have been delighted. However for the price we did pay and for the room we were allocated we felt more than a little cheated. All in all though a good holiday in a nice hotel.

This is a romantic hideaway next to the sea. Charming garden overlooking rural landscape, elegant lobby, welcome refreshment drink at check-in. Rooms are simple, with basic furniture, usual appliances (LCD TV, minibar, AC), the balcony – has a gliding door with a mosquito net. Bathroom was clean, shower had gliding doors and everything worked smoothly during our stay. Fresh linen, towels were changed every other day. Staff was well-mannered, friendly, relaxed and always available to help.
Breakfast buffet was ok, with just enough choices, plenty of cooked eggs, but also something for vegans /vegetarians. For lunch you could opt for a snack from the pool bar - nicely served to your sunbed or lounging place of choice around the garden. Dinner a la carte at the hotel consisted in a choice of 3 starters, 3 main dishes and 2 desserts – different every night, wine menu was a little expensive.
The taverns along the seashore in Kolymbari are a 15 minutes walking distance from the hotel. (If you go there by night make sure to have the lantern app, as there’s a stretch of road not lighted.).
Pleasantly surprised by lunch one day on the veranda restaurant of the neighboring house next to our hotel (don’t remember to have seen its name) – pastitsio and moussaka were delicious.
The beach in front of the hotel is pebbled and the sea deepens abruptly. Luckily, the pool is excellent: crystal clear water, never crowded – almost had it to myself. Even the toilet by the pool was spotless clean. Sunbeds comfortable, Wi-Fi worked. Pastoral sights + blissful ambiance = healing.
The bus stop is on the main road which is 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel. Buses are actually coaches with comfy seats and aircon. One way ticket to Chania was 3,5 euros and a 40 minutes drive. For Elafonissi Beach a two way ticket was around 15 euros and worth it as the drive on abrupt serpentines through the gorge provided some stunning views. Received a printout of the buses timetables from reception (thank you Angela for very clear explanations).
Best asset of this hotel is the staff, these guys are proof that Cretan hospitality is not just fake marketing. Sophia, Angela, and Emanuel on reception provided great information and unbiased advice (so as to avoid touristic traps and make the best options for enjoying our visit); also appreciated the efforts of the (only two) boys (don’t know their names) who attended the pool bar, breakfast and dinner tables every single day.
By the end of your stay you feel like you are visiting family.
Had a great time, will return to Crete.
Pros – garden, pool, staff
Cons – the beach, secluded, surroundings unkept

I visited with my daughter for a week this July, it was our first time in Crete and we were looking for a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings and that is just what we goy, yhe hotel was pure luxury, breakfast was fresh and plenty full, and such a relaxed start to our day, we relaxed by the pool on luxurious padded sun beds, and were served drinks and lunch at the pool bar, the staff are welcoming and so pleasant, Thanos at the poolside bar was attentive and informative of the local area and always happy to help, our cleaner Kpasi what a wonderful lady always a smile and so kind and worked so hard, in the evening we walked up to the harbour which was beautiful, so idyllic , im in a wheelchair and found every part of the area and hotel very wheelchair friendly, our stay was memorable, and we will definitely be returning, we were so sad to leave, thank you Chryssana beach it was a pleasure.

Came here in July not realising we'd stayed at the 5* Avro just a few hundred yards down the road a year or two ago. Then we were disappointed with the area and nothing has changed much.
We had taxi transfers from the airport, a journey of about 40 minutes. We received a warm welcome and a refreshing complimentary drink at the hotel and check in was quick.
We opted for a sea view room and we could just about see the sea above the tree tops, it definitely wasn't worth paying extra for the sea view but the room was pleasant enough except one of the wall lights above the beds was very loose and lopsided and only worked with some jiggling about.
We were half board which was ok but food in the evening wasn't amazing, it wasn't awful, just unimaginative, breakfast was ok though.
All areas of the hotel were kept spotless, house keeping did a great job.
The pool area always had sunbeds to spare but we tended to use the ones on the lawn between the pool and the car park mainly because temperatures were around 100 degrees and the grassed area had a nice sea breeze to cool us down.
The long stretch of beach is just a few yards over the road and is mainly pebbles. It's not a fantastic area to go and sit because it's got the usual debris that gets washed up by the sea. The taverna next to the hotel has a dozen or so sunbeds for hire on the beach, if you decide to do that the hotel will fix you up with beach umbrellas, just ask at reception.
If you turn left coming out of the car park a 15 minute walk will take you into the town. There's a handful of tavernas on the sea front here which were ok for lunch, do try the ones overlooking the harbour, but service and food were hit and miss.
We spent a great day in Chania, it cost us a touch over 7 Euros for two of us on the bus, we got a cab back and that cost us 35 Euros. Chania is well worth a visit if you go to the old harbour area. We're heading back there for a few days in the autumn.
Overall a good, chill out holiday at an ok, very quiet hotel with amazing staff who do a great job, they really do make the place.

Room Tip: Rooms on the reception side of the hotel get the sun in the afternoon/evening, rooms on the opposite side get the sun in the morning.
