Our apartment was perfect. Very clean and well equipped. We were very glad we decided to hire a car for the whole holiday as the apartments are in a quiet village, with a bit of a walk to the beach or to the nearest town, and it was too hot to walk too far. But we chose to be away from the hustle and bustle so it was great. We were surrounded by olive groves and hills, not buildings and noise. The local tavernas serve wonderful Authentic Greek food and the staff are very friendly. Our hosts were friendly and knowledgeable and always available, but unobtrusive.
My only negative comment would be that the bed was not very comfortable.
The views from our apartment were stunning. The pool was wonderful on our return from a days exploring the area greatly helped by Robin and Sues vast knowledge of special places to visit. Nothing was too much trouble and the provision of beach towels were a great help, leaving more room and less weight in the suit cases. Robin also picked us up and returned us to and from the airport at a very fair rate. This was our second stay at this at this wonderful relaxing place were the cicadas are the loudest noise you will hear
For those who want a chill-out holiday in Crete, it would be hard to beat Robin’s Nest. It is a small block of self-catering apartments in the tiny village of Afrata on the Rodopou peninsula in N.W. Crete. Each apartment has a good sized bedroom with air-conditioning, a kitchenette with basic crockery, pots and pans and cutlery, and a fridge, a toilet/shower and a couple of balconies, so it is an ideal location for self-catering travellers. The apartments are clean, comfortable and contain everything you need, and there is a well-maintained swimming-pool and a sitting-out area. The English owners, Robin and Sue, provide an ample breakfast of local produce and home cooking for the bargain price of 6 Euros; it is to die for!
Robin and Sue are very helpful with local information and suggestions if asked, but otherwise are unobtrusive and let you get on with your holiday. The key advantage of Robin’s Nest is that it is very quiet; there are no televisions in the apartments, there is no tourist racket outside, so it really is a place to relax and unwind. There is a stony beach in a cove about 15 minutes’ walk away with beautiful clear water, ideal for swimming and snorkelling. A café on the beach provides cold drinks and simple food, and there are sunbeds and parasols. However, some people might find the stones difficult to navigate so a pair of flip-flops or plastic sandals is recommended. However, there are attractive sandy beaches within a ten to fifteen-minute drive, and Robin and Sue can provide directions.
Superb location in the middle of olive groves with goats passing by. Beautiful drive in from Koylambari. Great pool. The accommodation suited us an ideal base for exploring the west of Crete and to spend a couple of lazy days by the pool. Susan and Robin are lovely hosts willing to help in any way if needed but equally supported us to do our own thing. Flat and pool both spotless.
