Andrew & Maureen were friendly , efficient & helpful. They did not intrude on our privacy but were happy to stop and chat or share a drink with us of an evening if we wanted to.
The villa was modern and exceptionally clean , the bed was comfortable & the walk in shower (and the outside one )were great. The view & the infinity pool were to die for. You could sit outside and not be troubled by anything louder than a cockerel crowing, a goat bell tinkling, or a vulture soaring down the ravine next to the villa.
The village is traditional, rural, and not 'touristy' with a couple of Tavernas and half a dozen more down by the sea. Our favourite as 'No Stress"
You will definitely need a car, but most attractions, including Spinalonga, are within easy driving distance and Andrew is good at providing directions.
A lovely 'chilled out 'holiday.

“The Perfect holiday retreat”
Reviewed 20 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We wanted a holiday for some late summer sun in a place that offered both the chance to relax and some local places of interest. Neither of us had been to Greece before and we decided on Crete so we could visit Spinalonga (having read and enjoyed 'The Island') and see the ruins of Knossos.
Looking through the lettings site we came across Villa Marina and felt that it ticked the necessary boxes. Having read the reviews we had high expectations...which in reality were exceeded.
The villa is wonderful. Clean, well equipped and the air conditioned bedrooms very comfortable. The bed was so comfortable and it was so wonderful to wake and have a view of the sun rising, overlooking the infinity pool and the sea..... perfect. The views from the villa are incredible. We enjoyed our breakfast (served by Mo) every morning, sipping coffee and just staring at the spectacular scenery, it really was breath taking and we could've just sat and enjoyed the view all day.
The village of Milatos is quiet and picturesque yet only ten minutes from the new highway to allow you to get out for trips. The village is well provided for eating out with several excellent Tavernas serving good, reasonably priced traditional food. The Greeks are terrifically helpful and friendly, you soon get used to the complimentary glass or three of raki at the end of the meal!
Then there were our hosts Andrew and Mo. Truly the icing on our holiday cake. They have the balance just right, of being friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. We really enjoyed our chats with them and very much appreciated all their very thoughtful gestures, meeting us in the village to direct us to the villa, a welcome drink on arrival, goodies left in the fridge, roses put out on the breakfast table. Nothing too much trouble, drawing us directions on maps, recommending places to eat and visit.
We have had the most wonderful relaxing holiday, and have thoroughly enjoyed visiting Crete. We are so delighted that we found Villa Marina, we really have had the perfect holiday. The world is such a big place and plenty to visit , so we have a rule never to visit the same place twice.... we think this is going to be the exception!! Thank you Andrew and Mo and think we will definitely be seeing you again.

“Stunning place to spend your holidays”

Most has been said in the previous reviews, and we tend to agree. The villa is just absolutely gorgeous.

Located in the hills of Milatos, Andrew came to pick us up from the town centre. If that is what you can call it, because Milatos is a very small, somewhat secluded Greek village. Upon arrival at the villa we were greeted by his wife Maureen and were immediately offered a drink. They showed us around the villa, which has everything you need except for a kitchen. They really make you feel right at home and are always on hand to provide tips on where to go and what to do. Despite this, they really respect your privacy and you'll hardly know they live upstairs.

The villa is clean and super peaceful. You'll find a large, big bathroom with a spacious shower. Two bedrooms, with a comfy double and a twin. We only used to double bedroom. A/C is included which is great with the Cretan heat. There's also a stocked fridge and some snacks.

The pool is every bit as great as it looks on the website. We would take a dip every morning after breakfast (provided by Maureen) and enjoy the stunning view. It really is a great place to unwind.

The village of Milatos is also a nice place to relax. We ended up spending a lot of our evenings at The Well, where owners Kirsti and Dimitri offer excellent home cooked food, drink and company! I really recommend going there at least once. Milatos Beach is good for seafood, but there is no beach. Still, nice place as well! We also drove down to Sissi a couple of nights when we were in need of some more people around us :)

In short, if you're looking for a luxurious place to stay on Crete at a very reasonable price, unwind and relax at your own private pool, then this is the place to stay! We loved our week here!

“A view to blow your mind, with authentic island life nearby”

I stayed in this villa with my partner for 6 nights, along with a friend in the second room. The place is clean, modern and spacious and the spectacular view will keep you enthralled throughout your stay... I never got tired of it.

Although this place is the perfect spot in which to do nothing for a couple of days, there's plenty to do as well. The mountains above the villa are full of small villages, and if you stop in at one of their tavernas the locals will soon engage in conversation with you.

I would sometimes go out in the early mornings for a walk or cycle and end up in a mountain valley without another soul in sight, enjoying the atmospheric tonkling of goat bells or seeing a flock of vultures circling gracefully high above me.

There's also plenty of nightlife within driving distance, and the village below the villa is crammed with tavernas, where you can enjoy lunch or an evening meal.

While our hosts, Andrew and Maureen, were mindful not to intrude on our privacy, they were always on hand to offer advice on nearby attractions, exploring the island further or just having a quick chat to say hello and see how we were getting on. This created such a pleasant atmosphere, that although I was initially cautious about staying in hosted accommodation I would not hesitate to recommend Villa Marina to anyone who wants the luxury of high-end villa accommodation at a more moderate rate

Liked least: The kitchen facilities are limited, so that it's not practical to prepare a cooked meal. Eating out is easy and reasonably priced, but the pool is such a nice meal setting that if there had been a kitchen I would've stayed in for dinner some nights

“First Class”
Reviewed 6 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

This was the most romantic & idyllic holiday ever. The accommodation is absolutely spotless; Maureen & Andrew are fantastic hosts, there, but leaving you total privacy. We have been home 1 month and a day does not pass by without thinking of the magical memories Villa Marina gives you. The setting is so relaxing, you have got to experience staying; otherwise you will not be able to capture how wonderful it is. The idea of laying in an extremely comfortable bed, watching the night sky through to dawn with the drop of an infinity pool, across the scattered villas of a small Cretan village to the sea & beyond had never been more than a dream. During the day lots to explore and for all Victoria Hislop fans only a day trip to Plaka & Spinalonga
