We stayed at Fattoria from June 5 to 9 and used it as a base to tour the smaller towns as well as wine country. We had arranged horseback riding (for her) and Italian cooking lessons (for both of us) on June 6 to celebrate Kathleen's b'day. I can rightly say it was the highlight of our month long stay in Italy. Berenice was always friendly and helpful and translated for the cooking lessons. The room was great and there was good common space that allow us to meet and get to know other guests. We would recommend it to anyone visiting Tuscany.

We truly enjoyed our time here! We stayed two nights and the first night there we actually hung out at the property all day riding bikes and taking naps outside. We then ventured into the town (quaint and not very friendly to outsiders- no English) and bought groceries at the local store and actually made dinner in the gorgeous kitchen which we then ate outside on the balcony. The staff were incredibly accomodating,English was great, breakfast was delish. The rooms were also nice and we felt that we had a true Tuscan experience. Please stay here, you will not be displeased! (Try their wine as well, delish!)

We rented the " gardener's apartment" for 10 days in October. The location seemed ideal to explore the wine region an Siena. The town is a quaint little town with few good traditional restaurants, not much to do there but at least you are lose to Siena without having to be in the city.
We were nor served well by the family living at the fattoria. They seemed to be unavailable when we need them, not friendly, helpful or gracious about their job.
The scary thing (and main reason for this bad review) is that at night the fattoria was left completely dark, no lamp posts or spot lights anywhere. We could hear people, men, walking around the appatment where there should not be anyone; they seem to be workers of the place. We left earlier than planned (and never got a refund as promised) because we did not feel safe specially because we would come late at night from excursions and had valuables in the house.
We spent 5 days around Lucca in another villa and had the complete opposite experience so we know this experience is not typical of the region

A rambling farmhouse situated atop a hillock overlooking miles of Tuscan countryside. The house has three spacious bedrooms and a large eat-in kitchen that wound up being the center of our life while there. The water heater in the kitchen is a little temperamental but this did not extend to either the heat or pressure in the showers, both of which were very good. There was a good deal of rain while we were there so it got a little buggy but it's hard not to expect this in the countryside. One scary aspect is walking to San Rocco a Pilli and the local supermarket. Like most Italian small towns, the concept of a sidewalk hasn't hit yet and the drivers pass through town as though it wasn't even a pit stop on the Grand Prix. Best advice is to walk facing the traffic. There is a bus stop immediately in front of the farmhouse so getting into Siena is quick and inexpensive (an hour-long biglietti for the bus is 1 Euro). One absolute while in San Rocco: Go to Buon Sapori Ristorante. One of the best meals I've had in Italy in a long time, and that's saying a lot.

My goal was to spend 2 weeks of my vacation bicycling in Tuscany from a home base situated somewhere close to Siena. In retrospect i must say that i could not have been more lucky with my choice of a home base!

The Fattoria di Cavaglioni is situated in a quiet location just outside a quiet little village about 12,5km (if i remember correctly) south west from the railroad station in Siena. All necessary facilities are available within walking distance: 3 restaurants, a COOP store where you can purchase just about anything you need if you prefer to make your own food, a Laundromat, post office, etc. The view from the balcony outside of the kitchen for the guests is spectacular - especially for viewing the magnificent sunset.

For many weeks previous to my stay at the Fattoria di Cavaglioni i have been experiencing problems sleeping, but my sleep was peaceful and revitalizing during my stay there.

The proprietors of Fattoria di Cavaglioni made me feel right at home. They were very helpful with suggestions for day trips. Communication was not a problem, even though i only understand English and Norwegian - their English is very good and their social antennas well adjusted.

Tuscany is a region full of all kinds of treasures worth experiencing: Geographical, architectural, historical, gastronomical, musical, artistic, etc. - and the Fattoria di Cavaglioni is in my opinion the perfect base from which to experience all of these - from car (or any motorized vehicle), bicycle, or public transport.

The Fattoria di Cavaglione and it's surroundings were like paradice for me. I will always cherish the memory of my stay there.
