We have just returned from a fabulous two week holiday in Barbados. As we were unable to choose between Turtle Beach and Crystal Cove, we spent a week at each. We travelled at the end of July at the start of the school summer holidays and are a family of three with a 12 year old daughter.

I will start with Turtle Beach. We absolutely loved it. We booked an ocean view junior suite and were on the top floor corner room – almost ocean facing – lovely.

Beach was gorgeous, no seaweed, rocks or jelly fish! Waves were great fun too – you would need to keep an eye on small children though.

Ate once at Asiagos and this was the one and only time we experienced unfriendly staff – did not enjoy the meal at all and never returned. However, had good meals at the other two restaurants. Preferred the buffets to A La Carte – which is unusual for us.

During the summer holidays this is definitely a ‘family’ hotel, very few people without children, whereas Crystal Cove, although still very much a ‘family’ hotel, did have more couples without children.

Crystal Cove – We booked an ocean view junior suite and was upgraded to adjoining ocean front rooms which meant we had two bathrooms as well.

Crystal Cove again has a lovely beach, although I do favour the beach as Turtle Beach. Great to have the free watersports although you do need to queue up to order these at 8.30am for the following day! A bit disappointing if the sea is not calm as these will then be cancelled.

Preferred the food at Crystal Cove. You can either eat at Reflections or outside at Drifters, as long as its not raining. If they do expect rain then everyone has a buffet at Reflections. As with Turtle Beach, I thought the buffets were better than the A la Carte options. Favourite meals were lunch at Drifters – overlooking the sea. Sometimes I felt it would be nice to have an air conditioned restaurant as evenings were very humid – which was not a problem at Turtle Beach on the South coast.

Would recommend the catamaran trip for snorkel and turtle swimming and the Jeep Safari – both excellent. Both these trips can be booked at either hotel.

Would I return – DEFINITELY!

We have stayed at many hotels in Barbados over the years with our two children who are now 11 and 6 and I have to say that we keep coming back to Tutle Beach. The accomodation is excellent large rooms spotlessly clean and extremely helpfull staff.
The rooms at Turtle Beach have recently undergone a sucessful renovation they are elegant having not lost any of their unique Barbados charm which some of the larger chains have.
The food is consistantly good and always hot, if you require any special dietry requirements they are happy to oblige and the adults only Italian resturaunt is a good idea. The staff themselves are always pleasant and most of them have been with the company for a number of years. Maradonna in the bar and his colleages always have a smile as do Sonja, Erlyn Erna, Tara and Juliet in the kids club - well done on the new look, masses for kids to do - table football, table tennis, playpark WII plus arts crafts games...... the list is endless. You can certainly leave your kids there in the knowledge that they will be well cared for and amused.
Captain Sam and his staff are always on hand to take you out on the watersports and are great with the kids. I would certainly recommend this hotel for both families and couples alike.

This was our third time here. Its a fantastic place for a holiday The staff are the freindliest i have ever met. The staff in the kids club were great with the kids. Captain sam and the guys on the beach were great getting sun beds for you and taking you out on hobbie cat rides. Captain sam has his eye on everyone in the sea to make sure they are safe as the sea can be rough. The staff in the bars and restaraunts were great. The perfect place for a relaxing holiday.

Room was large, comfortable, marvellous ocean front sea view.
Bathroom clean and decent.
Pool area seemed clean but lively with many children.
Food was good in the Asiagos and Waterfront areas of the hotel, the buffets were decent with variety but after a week we were ready for a change foodwise, maybe anyone would be.
Beach was clean, fine white sand, clear blue warm waters. Sea a little choppy for children but good fun in the waves for 10+ years. No real snorkelling option on the beach.
Beach crew are helpful and relaxed fetching sunbeds / giving out bodyboards etc/ taking children on small catamaran rides
Recommend taking a west coast large catamaran trip for snorkel and turtle swimming - brilliant.
Also recommend 1 day tour of island.
The GAP felt safe to walk day or evening however be prepared to be offered wacky baccy on the street, we weren't pestered though and a polite no and a little chat saw us left alone with no problems.
Go to Oistins on a Friday for street party, fried fish and beer. Advice - Check the price when you order tho as no prices are up in the stalls.
Not the greatest hotel for couples/honeymoon solely based on the number of families/children present - however travel in school hols and thats what you get! On flip side probably a really good family hotel.
Good hotel, but go West Coast if you want a flat calm sea.

Room Tip: Oceanfront junior suite recommended - 1st floor upwards

Where do I start. From the moment you arrive at this hotel the staff are welcoming and ready to do anything to help make your stay special.
On our 2 week holiday we did not meet one rude or unhelpful person.
Lots of thanks go to the Kids club team who were excellent, my 6 & 8 year old have never wanted to go to kids club before. This time we had to fight with them not to go.
The program they have is varied and changes hourly, which keeps the children interested.
All of the restaurant staff were lovely, especially Racquel who assisted my daughter when she had a nosebleed and then became a daily friendly face.
Captain Sam, Ricky, Kirt and the rest of his team (sorry I can't remember all the names), were fabulous. The Hobie cat was great fun. You are in safe hands and thebguys keep a close eye on what is going on in the water.
Entertainment is typical for the Caribbean and consists of singing acts, with everything finishing by 10.30
Must do's for any visitor to Barbados are a catamaran trip with snorkelling with the turtles and the 4x4 jeep safari.
Also a stroll along the beach after dusk may coincide with a turtle coming out of the water to lay it's eggs, absolutely amazing!
We visited Crystal cove which was quieter, although the sea was calmer, we felt Turtle Beach was better suited to young children as there were more facilities and a better layout or children.
All in all a fabulous holiday we will be back!
In all a fabulous holiday and hotel. Thank you everyone.
