“Bandara Resort Koh Samui, Thailand...I won't be returning”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2012

I arrived at the airport and the transfer from the hotel was late, not the greatest start, but he was friendly and provided water. The hotel reception staff were rude and seemed uninterested. I was sat down on the sofa, asked to fill out the registration form and when I had finished the receptionist waved at me to come over, obviously a bit too hot for him to get up and walk over to me. I was impressed with the early check in as I arrived around 9am. The room was good for the price that we had paid so no quarrels there. My friend arrive 2 hours later then me, her transfer didn't arrive so she got a taxi, at the end of the stay when checking out they tried to charge her for 'no show' limousine, wouldn't believe her that he hadn't picked her up even though the voucher had not been signed. They said they had to contact the driver, which they did and took off the charge from the bill. The reception staff on our last day were rude and slow. We came back from dinner to settle the bill hoping by this time they would of contacted the driver who didn't show. Four of them were at the desk and completely ignored us when we arrived. I said hello, the lady then said, 'just one moment' and then carried on speaking to her colleagues in her language. I was just a little bit outraged.

The restaurant on our first evening served us up a luke warm chicken dish. The waitress did ask if anything was wrong and we told her, both dishes came off of the bill. So good service there, but we didn't want to risk eating there again and Fisherman's village has so much more to offer on the food front, especially Happy Elephant, where the service and food are excellent.

The bar staff, or I should say the one person behind the bar, was once again slow and rude, seemed more interested in batting the flies away from the fresh fruit that was just sat out and not covered and I guess used in the drinks..hmm!! One bar guy, I think his name badge read Toe, was fantastic. The waiter at the pool bar, when asked if I could get a water, just sat there messing with his ipod then around 30 seconds later decided to get up and go to the fridge, 30 seconds is a long time, when the fridge is located just behind him. He seemed to be on a different planet most of the time. Uninterested in his guests. I am used to the waiters walking around the pool, making sure people are well watered and fed, his training has clearly not included customer awareness.

The breakfast in my opinion was average. No fresh orange juice, everything watered down. One toaster for the whole restaurant and a crowd around it.

The grounds were superb, the pool clean and enough sunbeds for everyone there and on the beach. Maybe small tables for drinks would be good around both areas as when my friend was served coffee by the pool she was given to her in her hand, not a four star standard.

If the rudeness of the staff and the food improved I would come back as the location to the village was good and the hotel very pretty. But until then..it's a no go for me and I would not recommend.

We had a wonderfful stay although our initial impression was not good. The resort is placed right on the road and the superior room we were allocated was on a corner at the front. We arrived tired and realised that with the noise from traffic approaching, passing and retreating sleep would be a real problem as we are used to quiet. The staff were sympathetic but as the hotel was almost full they could not move us for 5 days! We reluctantly agreed to accept their offer of a discounted upgrade to a villa. It made the trip more expensive but we reaped the benefits.
The villa was at the end of the resort near the beach and beach pool. We made use of courtyard and outdoor shower. The proximity to the beach made popping back for comfort breaks, supplies etc really easy. As many people have mentioned the in-room fridge was marvellous for housing supplies from the Family Mart opposite the hotel. The room was kept clean and the towels etc replenished by a cheery maid. She, and all the staff, were superb: friendly and efficient. The staff at beakfast provided a lovely start to each day.
We used the beach quite often. There is always something going on to watch with vendors passing regularly selling all manner of items. They were not overly persisitent so did not cause a nuisance. We acquired a regular ice cream man who had a good knowledge of English football, not just the premiership he proudly told us and listed many more minor teams. There were also vendors of chicken skewers, spring rolls and barbequed sweetcorn which provided a delicious lunch. Most days we walked along the beach to have a drink &/or massage. Both directions were possible. Fisherman's Village provided the most choice. We ate there several times and were rarely disappointed. Friday Walking Street allowed us to graze from the stalls for cocktails and food. There was a real buzz to the whole evening and it is not solewly for tourists, there were many Thai people partaking, especially the stall selling cooked bugs!

Room Tip: Rooms in the reception block are likely to be more noisy- the superior rooms

We stayed at the Bandara in April 2011 just after the floods and said we would definatly return, and we did with 30 other friends and family. My daugther got married at the Faraway Villa in Lipa Noi so we all stayed at the Bandara. Apologies for anyone who reads this and was staying at the Bandara at the same time as we could be quite noisy at times. The whole two weeks we stayed here was amazing. We was uprgraded to a villa which was excellent but did not get much time to take of advantage of it as we was with a big party but would definatly recommend it. Staying there for 2 weeks we did not get bored of the excellent breakfast that was served every day it was tasty and fresh and a big variety of different dishes. There was plenty of sun beds every day where ever you wanted to sit, whether it be the beach or by the pool, considering there was so many of us we always managed to get enough sunbeds to sit together. The only big complaint I have about this hotel is the the hawkers. Despite having a security guard who did not absolutly nothing allday and having a little picket fence set up the hawkers would come past you constantly and would even standy in front of you waving their wares whilst you was having a conversation. I do think this is an issue that should be raised as it was not just our party that was disgrunted by this, considering they are paying a security guard to sit and do nothing.

Room Tip: Try to book a deluxe room as the superior rooms are situated on the front building and can be subjec...

We had a really lovely stay at the Bandara. The pool villas are really lovely and make it feel very special. It is also only a short walk to Fishermans village which is just lovely for the evening time.
The staff at breakfast (Meaw, in particular), the beach bar staff, the housemaids, Sophie the guest relations lady and the Sea Hawk security team were lovely and so pleasant all of the time, they really made you feel special and welcome.
The reception staff however were very surprisingly less so, it wasn't that they were rude or anything just that they were not so friendly as the other staff, maybe the manager should have a switch around...
At times it felt that there were insufficient staff at breakfast and at the beach bar.
Overall however we had a fabulous time and would highly recommend the Pool Villas to anyone wishing to stay in the lovely Bo Phut area of Ko Samui.

We stayed at the Bandara for a family reunion in February. We have been to Koh Samui 4 times now and stayed at a variety of resorts usually on Chaweng beach. This year we were recommended to try Bophut instead as it is a little more subdued, which we welcomed. I'm all for a chilled quiet holiday but Bophut was a little too quite at times though.

As for the Bandara I cannot recommend the resort enough. The staff were fantastic and made our stay all the better, especially Tan, Gee and Joy who were absolutely amazing. The rooms were spotless and beautifully decorated, and were huge in comparison to many hotels. During the day the resort has a great atmosphere with people buzzing around with lots of activities and the staff always on hand to help.

The only slight negative I had with the Bandara, but I think it is more Bophut in general and that was that after sun down it did seem incredibly quiet. The hotel bars and restaurants were quite quiet, not that this is a bad think but could do with a handful of people to create more of an atmosphere. But then apart from Friday nights when the market is in full swing at the fishermanas village, Bophut is a very relaxed and much slower than Chaweng.

This didn't at all impact our holiday though, and we had the most amazing time. Bandara and its staff were a huge part of that, which we thank them for greatly.

Room Tip: All rooms are sea facing, although because of the lush gardens you can't really see the sea. All...
