After spending 3 nights on Koh Phangan my husband & I decided to stay 1 night in Koh Samui before flying to Bangkok. This hotel is a true bargain with lovely grounds and beach front location on Bophut Beach. Our room was basic but very clean, modern and looked very new. It had a tiny balcony, big enough to hang your towels out and had everything we needed for our stay including a small fridge. Our room overlooked the main road which was no issue for our one night stay.

The hotel is a deal, with free wifi in the lobby with nice comfy sofas to sit on. 2 small swimming pools and plenty of sun loungers around the pool and also on the beach below which the pools overlook. A nice pool bar with decent prices and a netted off area in the sea for safe swimming.

We didn't use the restaurant at the hotel as eat at the nearby fisherman's Village (about 20 mins walk), although the hotel does run a shuttle for a small fee where there are plenty of places to eat. There is also a convenience shop across the road.

Don't stay here expecting luxury as this is merely a decent 3 star branded hotel. But this hotel is excellent value for money especially as it is beach front. When we stayed it was school holidays which meant the pool was quite noisy at times.....but hey for £30 a night I can't complain. If returning to Koh Samui we would stay here again, but would not necessarily recommend it for those wanting quiet relaxing holiday away from noisy kids. Overall a great stay at this Ibis.

But a few things not up to standard. One, the bed is so hard I have not had a decent nights sleep since I got here. I have had 2 hip replacements and so have wasted muscles on my hips and when I turn on my side the bed is so hard it hurts me. The wardrobe is so tiny one has to live out of the suitcase. The rooms now have wifi which is great but there is no desk, chair or even a shelf to put your laptop on????? The last gripe is why are there no rules about babies in nappies being in the pool, surely this is so unhygenic? I love the food here and the staff are generally quite nice.

Room Tip: Bring your own mattress.

I stayed at the Hotel Ibis for 2 weeks in May 2012 and had a tremendous time. Good location right behind the beach, good food, friendly staff, clean and comfortable hotel rooms, well maintained gardens and pool area.
The Pirate Inn is located on the main road only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Parn and his colleagues made me feel very welcome and i would definately recommend this bar and restaurant to other holidaymakers. The food is excellent and very good value, facilities are good (there is a pool table and satellite TV), and there is a very friendly atmosphere. Parn and the rest of the staff provided the highest levels of customer service and at the end of the holiday Parn and myself were the best of friends. I cannot wait to return to Koh Samui. Superb holiday.

Room Tip: Try and choose a room at the rear of the hotel that has a balcony which looks out over the hotel gro...

The hotel itself was a little disappointing compared to others that I've stayed in whilst being in Thailand. It's rated 3.5 stars and the quality drops significantly from the four star hotels. The rooms are very basic and the walls are paper thin. Noise reverberates though the corridors so expect noisy kids. Oh and the drains stink! There's no fitness centre or spa either for those looking for some pampering you'd have to find that else where. However, it's on the north side of the island do I can highly recommend staying in Bophut, the beaches are quieter than chaweng and just lovely. Chaweng is a 15 minute cab ride so worth going there at night for shopping. The best thing about the hotel for me was the food. It's the best curry that I've had all holiday so with that and a step onto the beach, that certainly outweighs the slight annoyances.
