“Worth the effort of getting there”

Since the road to the parking spot much closer to the volcano is closed, it takes quite some more effort getting there, walking down a gravel road. Luckily that isn't so bad, since the view is also nice from this road, although it takes away some of the charm.

From the actual starting point things get more interesting and when ascneding the volcano, it takes some big steps up and down and from time to time walking very close to an unfenced chasm. But no worries, i did this with an one year old on my back. The views from the top are stunning, but the view from below is already very nice.

The visitor centre at Volcan Teneguia was manned by helpful staff who advised us to view the volcano crater first, as the wind was not too strong!
We understood why as we walked round the path. There is a drop into the crater on one side and down the extrenal slope on the other! The only provision to safety was a rope attached to metal rods hammered into the ground.
The short film afterwards which is in several languages was informative. The staff changed the language to suit us without being asked.
There is a little coffee shop which sells cakes, biscuits and assorted souvenirs.
The toilets were clean and tidy.

Worth a visit. If you enjoy walking/hikes then the trails are well marked and the volcanic landscape very dramatic indeed. We aim to do this walk again on our next visit. The walk ends at the Lighthouse, and the salinas. You can then walk back to the hotel Princess or catch a local bus( running every 2 hours).

Spectacular surroundings - primeval feel to this most recent eruption on la Palma - 42 years ago. Good area for walking through the crunchy volcanic ash on well signed paths.

Did the walk from Volcano San Antonio through Teneguia to the Lighthouse and Saltpans.

Better option if you don't fancy the long walk is to take a car to the volcano from either the entrance off the road from La Palma Princess to San Antonio Volcano or from Lighthouse to Las Canarios. Make sure you take a walking stick up the volcano, its pretty stony.
