Our stay at the apartment was the second stop on our honeymoon and it was wonderful. The view from the balcony overlooking the bay was incredible.. The hosts were very attentive and had helpful suggestions depending on our plans for the day. We rented a vehicle and recommend it as it is nice to be mobile. The hill that the apartment is on is big and steep but it is great for stretching the legs on a walk into the main part of town
The hosts even arranged a great deal for a car rental (actually a small jeep which was fun to drive on the island roads) and drove us into the nearby city to pick it up.
Would definitely stay there on our next trip to St Lucia - an amazing island!!
Laborious in a great location, completely non touristy but with a good bus route you can easily access a wide area and is very cheap. I felt safe in laborie, people friendly and helpful. Good food, we had lobster at mama tilly's, grilled marlin at salt rush and conch (lambi) at mama rose all fab!, best rum punch at mama tilly's although the most expensive for laborie. David and Gill were very helpful hosts, always there to give advice on best places to visit and how to get there. Yes as other reviews say it is a steep hill to get there but on a plus side I didn't gain weight on holiday and it does only take 5 minutes, truly. Recommended stay.
We had a wonderful time at our laid back apartment overlooking the small fishing village of Laborie in the south west corner of St Lucia. The apartment was perfect for me and my wife. The village is around 15-20 mins driving from the international airport in Vieux Fort and is well situated for short day trips to the small old colonial town of Soufriere, the impressive pitons and good snorkeling at beaches around Soufriere. The village itself is very friendly and has some interesting old wooden buildings and a nice beach.
The 2 bedroom apartment was very clean and had all the amenities for self catering. The nice balcony overlooks the bay and village and is perfect for breakfast and an aperitif in the evening. We purchased fresh fish (tuna, barricuda, mahi mahi) nearly every day from the village port below. For other nights we ate at the excellent Mama Tilly's in Laborie. There is also a superb (and pricey) restaurant around 30 mins drive away called Dasheene at Ladera resort that has good food and impressive views of the pitons . We rented a car for visiting other parts of the island and recommend this for others.
Dave and Gill were great hosts and helped us with airport & rental car pickup, directions and recommendations etc. We highly recommend this property for other holidaymakers
This was my third visit to St. Lucia and we decided to try a self-catering apartment rather than one of the big hotels as the majority of them were some distance from where we needed to be on this occasion (Vieux-Fort) and Laborie seemed a decent compromise location-wise.
Well, what an undiscovered gem. A small, picturesque fishing village with a lovely beach, friendly locals and gorgeous views if you are high up (as we were). There are some small grocery stores where we shopped each day, and a few places to eat and drink down in the village. Gill is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and St. Lucia having lived there for over a decade, so if you have any questions or need any recommendations, just ask her.
Bay View - Cedar White is one of 2 self contained apartments owned by Gill and her husband (who are originally from the U.K.) and adjacent to their home. It has 1 double bedroom with a large outside balcony, 1 twin bedroom downstairs, open plan kitchen and living area with TV and bathroom with shower. The lovely balcony off the double bedroom has the most amazing views of Laborie Bay. It was a pleasure to spend each morning eating breakfast there and watching the sunset every evening with a glass of wine. There is Wi-Fi but the reception can be a bit hit-or-miss, but you're not in St. Lucia to be on the internet all the time!
It is definitely a place to stay if you are more of an independent traveller and enjoy going off the beaten track away from the mass tourism of the North of the island. Just one word of caution - this property is up a very steep hill. Not a problem if you have a car (we didn't) but it may be an issue if you have fitness or mobility issues. I consider myself fit and managed it OK, but I know my mother struggled with it. Having said that, the view of Laborie Bay once you're up there more than makes up for it. I really miss that view!
Thanks to Gill for her lovely hospitality and looking after us. We miss Laborie!
We called to view this property whilst holidaying in laborie as we nearly booked it but didn't need a place with two rooms. This apartment shares virtually identical views as greenheart apartment as it is just below it on the hillside. We met the owners frequently during our stay, often taking advantage of their local knowledge as they have lived in St. Lucia for 13 years. Dave has built and finished both of his apartments to a very high standard, the tv in the picture has now also been updated to a flat screen. Gill is an obviously proud yorkshire woman who likes to keep a very clean home ready for her guests. We popped in en speck, and the apartment was immaculate, made comfortable with screens on all doors snd windows and ceiling tfans in the rooms. The garden to the property is lovely, and as this property is a little lower, less able walkers may find its location preferable. We didn't stop at Dave and Gills, but I would have no hesitation recommending it now that I have seenit. A larger group could even rent out both apartments within the grounds, the other being private over the garage.
