Our large family (some of us visiting from Australia) stayed at this hotel in Dec 2011 and took 5 or so rooms. After the horrendous drive by private bus from Kolkata it took over an hour to check in and we found the reception staff to be quite useless and unhelpful. Even the manager was very rude and wanted to increase the tariff for us tourists (still very cheap for the two nights) and we experienced what can only be considered to be racism - because some of us are caucasian/white we could not be trusted apparently even though the booking had been made previously and a quote given! We did get a choice of rooms in the end and took the second floor, however our room was not clean, had stained/ripped sheets and pillowcases but lovely views of the ocean. They provided water but we preferred to use our own bottled water just in case. The food was barely edible, very disappointing and bit of pot luck really. No hot water whatsoever for showers. Room service was quite frustrating as they'd bring the wrong thing or not enough and would have to go back several times until the order was correct and yet they would expect tips every time. The tv hardly worked but there was always someone playing guitar and singing in the evenings which was lovely. The staff and other visitors to the hotel were noisy very early in the mornings - 6am! Our teenagers were also confronted by a strange elderly Indian woman pacing the second floor in front of our rooms which was quite scary for them. The FEW good things about this hotel is 1) the beach where you can pay a small fee to a photographer who takes photos of your family holidaying and gives you the prints - great idea, 2) the night markets are wonderful and 3) the leaving LOL. The day we left we were met with a snake in the outside shower and as we had to walk past it we made a hasty retreat. Never to return again!!! This hotel puts a whole new meaning to the word budget!
