As a couple, we were looking for some place away from hustle bustle of city to spend quality time together, & this property proved to be just the choice. The beautiful cottages set in the flower terrace were enchanting. We got to spend some precious time in tranquility in the scenic Himalayan range. We enquired about some activities & they called the people who organized rock climbing & rappelling, the experience was awesome.Since it was already off season for them, we were the only guests at that time, so got some extra attention as well!! I liked Mukteshwar better than Nainital in some ways; for those seeking rejuvenation in quaint location, this is the best resort in a very prertty surroundings.

We visited the resort impressed by the nice reviews we had read. We were traveling in a group of four and my mother was traveling as well so we were a little apprehensive about the basic amenities and the possible cold weather (mid February, 7500 feet above sea-level). We were looking for a few days away from the crowds of the cities.

Mukteshwar was about a 2 hour 15 minute drive from Kathgodam. The road was well-maintained and the journey took us through forests of pine, oak and rhododenderons, some beginning to bloom already. The mighty Himalayan peaks of Nanda Devi, Trishul, and others were visible in the North for almost an hour of the journey and even before arriving we could feel a certain tranquility.

When we arrived at sargakhet (5 kms away from Mukteshwar) we found ourselves in Mountain Trail, an assorted set of cottages, in the middle of apple and apricot orchards. This was the 'lean' season and the leafless branches stood out in their stark beauty. I would have prefered to see the apple blossom or the apple-laden branches, but this too had a beauty I could not ignore. The rooms were spacious and though minimalistic but not spartan. A very neat bed with classy linen was laid out. There were pictures of birds (very soon I was to add to this) and the bathroom was very nicely maintained. Warm water, electricity, and the sundry amenities which we take for granted (but are often a problem in other similar hill resorts) were not a problem. Each cottage had a nice lounge with chairs which we pulled out to enjoy the lovely Mukteshwar sun (I actually got sun-burnt from too much sun!!).

The Resort, by itself, was an example of how to run a small resort. Everything had a touch of class and spoke about the owner's attention to detail. Electric heaters were placed in the rooms to keep the temperature at a pleasant level. There was a nice library which had a good collection of fiction, spiritual and also, quite aptly, books on birds, mountains, and nature. I had a blast identifying birds with Salim Ali's famous book as my guide. The dining hall was impressive with small momentos showcasing the prized arts of the region. The fireplace was cackling and more than the actual warmth it made us feel special. There was a club house which we did not use.

To me, the best part was a combination of the people who worked in Mountain Trail and the birds which visited the resort. There were bird baths and water troughs where I found many different kinds of birds all day. My Nikon D7000 was never used as I did in framing these noisy, busy little bodies. It was my one great connect with nature (apart from the colors of the skies, the breathtaking sun-rise on the mountains, the spectacular sunsets, and the sheer sense of being a part of something majestic like the himalayas).. Secondly, I loved the young staff who were extremely courteous and helpful (right from preparing customized yummy menus to arranging for an exploratory picnic in a nearby stream). We kept asking for things (can we have hot pakodas, or can you get me 2 cups of tea with adrak, 1 without sugar, and another one with a dash of something else?) or favors (keep the resort door open, as I intend to be out exploring long before the dawn). Nothing was ever delivered without a nice warm smile.

Mr. Mayank, take a bow. Please give our regards to your staff. We will be back and we will visit other places that you maintain. Thank You for the memories.

We were a group of 4 friends and luckily we were the only people in the resort..Its a awesome place as the service levels exceeded our expectations.. Stayed there for 3 days.. had awesome food throughout the trip.. also mukhteshwar is one of those few places where you can truly relax, away from your blackberry and laptop and the resort only contributes towards that... one thing.. in Dec/ Jan temperatures may go down to -6.. so don forget to carry enough wollens..

Place to enjoy your holiday as hotel is having very nice views of the Himalayan. Situated bit far main city, you can only hear the voices of birds. Hotel is very neatly maintained, nice landscaping & plants, and good food. You can also view the scenic beautiful of sunset & sunrise by trekking nearby mountain.

Also Hotel staff and front-desk is very helpful.

I first visited the resort when I was in tenth standard, and second time after marriage with family. With so much gap in between my visits, one thing that has not changed is the beauty of the resort. Their plus points are location, on either side one can trek, there is a jungle trek not too far away. One can also see sunrise, sunset. Relaxing holiday. View from the resort is also good. From the rooms near reception, that's where I stayed.

Hotel staff is friendly , food very good. Service also good. U can request them for special meals and they happily agree. No tv in the room, another plus point.
