“Perfect Second Honeymoon Getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 March 2012

My Husband and I chose Mary Budden Estate, Binsar as a perfect getaway in the hills while planning our first vacation without kids, in seven years and it was PERFECT!! If lush green mountainside, moss on the trees, silence punctuated by bird songs and cries of barking deer, long walks in forest, the thrill of spotting leopard pugmarks without encountering hordes of tourists, is what one is looking for, then it is the place to be. A perfect combination of tasteful luxury of a hotel and personal touch of a home, the place has the original house with its cosy, old world charm nd the new cottages which show the owner, Serena Chopra's personal taste nd passion! Each room holds its own, with its distinct character and charm! The estate is located beautifully with different mountainside views, quaint spots with chairs nd hammocks, fireside dinners, bukharis in each room, amazing food, humble and effecient staff, hot running water for baths(can't ignore that :-)), tasteful collection of movies, books and games......everything a perfect recipe for making beautiful memories. One leaves with a promise to be back!!!

I visited Mary Budden Estate in may,2011. It was the best experience of my life, I enjoyed it very much. The beautiful and comfortable rooms and the lovely tranquility of the nature really put me at peace. On arrival I feel in love instantaneously. The property was so amazing and the way the whole Estate was put together is beautiful! The staff was so welcoming and helpful and they really make you feel youre back at home. Every room is so luxurious and filled with warmth specially on cold days with the lovely fireplaces and bukharis. The long walks in the green sanctuary was very refreshing and you can see so much wildlife, there are deers and langoors and my favourite the magnificent leopard, even though I didn't have the good fortune of seeing one but the thrill of trying to spot it is fulfilling enough and a great way to connect with nature. I really want to get back to Binsar in the winter and see the snow and spend time in the well stocked library with the tv and the collection of movies. It was such a fabulous holiday I was in great denial to go home until it was absolutely necessary.

Being a scuba diver and loving all I can experience below sea level...little did I expect to enjoy and learn to love what is way above it. Until I had the opportunity to spend time at Mary Budden Estate. Almost 8000 feet above sea level tucked away in an Oak forest I find myself lost in the mystique of Binsar . Being welcomed home after long treks with breathtaking views...yet wanting to stay warm and cosy the staff at Mary Budden made all that possible and more. Fireplaces, bukharis and running hot water render these beautiful cottages green yet an understated luxury. Each trip of mine has been a different experience and I love the colors and light different seasons bring. Not sure which season I love the most..whether the flowering red Rhododendron trees or the winter snow which I was lucky enough to experience. Always knowing I will be warm once indoors and be fed to my hearts content. My favourite is the dal soup so lovingly made by the staff, I could eat it daily!!!!

I'm a music producer from New York and visited Binsar on vacation. I brought my laptop and found Binsar to be very conducive to creativity.

Mary Budden Estate is a resort/guest house in the Himalayan forests of Binsar, Uttarakhand, India. To reach the estate you must drive 1 hour through total forest. There are few signs of human life. When you reach, you find yourself in the lap of luxury.

What makes this place unique is that you can have an authentic nature experience AND luxury.

The overall design reflects a labor of love. From the paths and gardens to the living spaces and kitchen to the utensils and plates to the food and quality of ingredients. There are no shortcuts taken and waste is minimized.

The food was up my alley: fresh, flavorful, healthy, and some local ingredients like jungle spinach. I still look at photos I took of the food and miss it.

The furniture and bedding in the rooms is high end. The decor is stylish and inspiring, even in the bathroom.

The workers are honest, caring, and work very hard to take care of you.

A typical day here was wake up, have espresso, fruit, breakfast, and watch the mountains and listen to the breeze. Then walk down a forest path to a horse stable. Then jog up the mountain with epic views and crisp air. At the finish line awaited an awesome lunch. Nap like a leopard which just caught its prey, and spend the afternoon creating music, exploring trails, and observing nature and animals.

I think the price is reasonable considering the level of luxury, the inclusion of spectacular food, and the unique position of being completely immersed in exotic nature.

I must warn you, it is difficult to return to reality after leaving.

I have been to Mary Budden estate three times already and it is safe to say that at the moment this is one of my favorite travel destinations on the planet. The natural beauty of the sanctuary is unmatched, i have not managed to spot a leopard as yet but wildlife is plentyful. The estate is run with great care and sophistication. To encounter such levels of comfort and luxury in the midst of remote and untouched nature does not seize to surprise me. I highly recommend this place to all who seek something special in their vacations. The staff is very friendly and unintrusive and I've enjoyed many a guided walk through the sanctuary. The kitchen serves excellent food and organic produce and i would also like to mention that they serve very good coffee which is something that is of great importance to me.
