The hotel is situated in a good location, not far from the beach, restaurants and tourist attractions.
as in most hotels in India service is poor,
the rooms are spacious but poorly maintained.
there is a nice small swimming pool.
breakfast is Indian and quite bad!

This hotel i choose after trip advisor review and recommendation of a friend who stays close to mahabalipuram. My feeling is it is little pricey for what it offers. Good things about the hotel were the swimming and taste of the Indian food that we had. but the bad things are very slow service especially at the restaurant, untrained young boys appointed as waiters. he gave a sugar spoon for having soup. the vegetarian dish that we ordered had pieces of crab meat. beach is almost 15 min walk. for slightly higher price you will get good beach facing resorts. or you can very less for decent lodge close to beach. This hotel is close to bus stand. i don't think it is a USP.
Early morning 4 O Clock we had the Cocks in the neighbourhood crooking and our sleep fully gone. The room given to us in the ground floor had black patches in the ceiling mostly dried fungal growth.

Room Tip: avoid the restaurant, higher floors may be better.

Best budget hotel in India
This is definitely the best budget hotel we have found in all of India. It’s literally an oasis in the middle of town, just east of the bus terminal on the edge of the old Mamallapuram and a short walk to the beach, restaurants, and the shore temple as well as the rock ruins. The remove from the main street blocks out all traffic noise.

The rooms are comfortable with good beds, AC, a fan, TV and a good, clean washroom. There is your standard budget shower in the room, that is, without a curtain or tub, but that is customary at this price level. The rooms have a shared “balcony” overlooking the very attractive pool and restaurant.

The pool is a good size and kept clean. The large end walls of the pool were decorated with attractive murals. The only problem is the pool hours, which are limited to 8 am to 8 pm to allow for cleaning.

For the children there is a menagerie of ducks, rabbits, chickens and Guinea fowl, although I must admit I never saw any children go near the cages.

The Manager and staff are friendly and helpful. Restaurant meals were satisfactory. Breakfast was included and was adequate with cereals, juice, tea or coffee, Indian fare, and made-to-order eggs. We paid extra for fresh bananas.

Lots of pluses, here are a few minor negatives:
1. We sometimes did not have hot water. The solar system was a bit wonky.
2. Our TV only had black and white, no colour. But they replaced it right away. Not that we wanted to watch TV anyway.
3. Noise – roosters start crowing at 5 a.m. and you can hear chairs shifting from the rooms above.
4. Restaurant service was very slow.

Room Tip: First floor rooms are great if you want to be close to the pool and don't want to climb any stai...

I with my family stayed for 2 Nights and 2 Days and we had a very good experience staying here.
I guess this is the 2nd Best Resport/Hotel in the place, very well maintained and peacefull to stay.
Staff is good and ambience is good as well.
Must recommend for all.

Room Tip: Go for Deluxe Room as they are very good. I have not seen Standard rooms but shoud be good.

We stayed at Mahabs Inn in January 2006 and January 2012 and much has changed for the better in between. The hotel has better service and more professional personnel, the rooms have been redone and the wonderful pool is there. The hotel itself is situated perfect right in the middle of cute Mahabalipuram, a short walk either to the beach, temples or other restaurants.Although the hotel is situated in the center of the village it is closed off and feels safe at all times. The guests are mixed european Travellers (many french) and indian tourists. We enjoyed jumping in the pool, sitting by the pool or sitting on the veranda. Rooms are better than suites, because they have a veranda. The hotel is a good choice for a few days to explore the village, or nearby areas. We would recommend it for anybody who is to o young for a resort, but wants some nice amenities.
