“Mini Switzerland (Yumthang Valley)”
Reviewed 10 August 2010

Tibetan village with a unique local and traditional self-government body called the Zumsa, Lachung is situated at an altitude of 9000ft. Lachung is the last village in North Sikkim before Yumthang and has emerged as a tourist destination because of its natural environ and the popularity of Yumthang valley that is just 24 kilometers from here.Lachung is about 110 kms from Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, the road to Lachung passes through some of the most beautiful but difficult terrain in sikkim full of picturesque waterfalls and great views. The village, spread out on either side of Lachung Chu River, is surrounded by might mountain peaks which remain snow clad for most of the year. A large number of beautiful waterfalls can also be visited close to Lachung. Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary Located in Lachung is famous for its collection of different species of Rhododendron that bloom during the months of April - May.The Lachung villagers, known as Lachungpas, has managed to retain their unique culture and tradition. The Lachung monastery on the slope opposite the highway is a focal point of all religious function of the local inhabitants.

“The valley of Flowers and Hot Springs-near snow line”
Reviewed 26 April 2009

26th April 2009

We visited this place in the month of May 2008 and found it amazingly beautiful.
We started in the morning from Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, by a hired Taxi and reached same day by evening. The journey itself to this place is very pleasant as the entire route is dotted with milky waterfalls, pristine forests and unparalleled beauty. Although journey on the rough roads was not comfortable, we were petal fresh at the end of it and the moment we landed at our Hotel Silver Green Resorts, we moved out to enjoy the snow clad mountains and murmuring river Teesta. The Hotel is situated on the banks of the river and faces snow clad peaks. Next day we went to Yumthang, better known as Valley of Flowers and Hot Springs and were got the most pleasant surprise of our life by seeing the Hot water coming out of the snow clad mountain- a confluence of two opposites and a marvel of nature. The hot springs are used by locals and tourists for bathing and the water of the springs contain medicinal properties which can cure skin diseases. Beautiful flowers blooms all around during this time of the year and the entire valley appears to be carpeted with vibrant colours.
Overall I would rate this place as exellent.
