MTDC Beach Resort Ganapatipule

We wanted to do holy visit to the ganapatipule temple in Ganapatipule, Ratnagiri. As we had planned only for 2 days and that too at the end of March, we decided to book the hotel in advance. We had heard of the MTDC resort which we thought would be the ideal place. There were deluxe rooms, superior room , Konkan rooms and Cottage rooms to choose from.

The booking of this resort is a bit difficlut as you cannot book this from their website. You may have to either go to thier office at any of the locations or contact their authorised booking partners. We booked the cottage for two days. The resort is around 35 kms from Ratnagiri station. The location of the resort is perfect as it is 2 mins walk from the beach and the temple. It is good if you have senior citizens with you as the temple visit is just a walk away.

The cottages that we booked are situated at the end of the resort - around 5 mins walk inside the resort. The cottage had a bed for two people a bathroom toilet attached and a hall with chairs. The ground floor cottage room has a garden with shade and garden chairs , while the cottage room on the first floor which was used by other guests had a terrace . The cottages had a beautiful view of the beach. At night you can hear the sound of the breeze and the large waves of the sea which was a great experience. The temple visit was also refreshing for the soul. There are stairs near the cottage which take you directly to the beach and acts as a private access. The rate of the cottage for 2 people is around 2800 for two people which is really worth it and if you have additional people then there is an extra charge of Rs. 250 per person for the mattresses that they provide.

Please note that is not like a luxury resort but it was neatly maintained. Except for tea/coffee there is no in house room service or dining. The check-in is strictly at 10.30 am and you have to check out latest by 9.30 am the next day. Please note that they do not accept credit or debit cards at the resort . There is a restaurant in the resort but is too crowded and the service takes a hell lot of time. Eating in another hotel around the resort would be a better option.

The resort also has water sports during a certain part of the season. it is better to check the same with the resort while booking. I would not suggest the Konkan rooms as they are around 1 km inside the resort and are not that worth.

So if you are planning to visit ganapatipule you may stay at the resort and se if you have the same experience too.

The hotel definitely has the best views among others that are at Ganpatipule. Built right on the hill at the sea, the waters are a stone throw away and offer amazing view of the gulf. Like any other MTDC properties however, the downer is the food and lack of services. However for couples, the NO-Service environment offers un-intrusive privacy and a great getaway.

The hotel is frequented by foreign travellers, couples on romantic trips and large families alike. There is something for everyone.

My wife and I stayed in one of the four "Sea View Cottage" rooms for three nights. They certainly are the best maintained rooms of the entire property. We did happen to check the other rooms and most of them had plasters coming off the wall and dingy bathrooms. However, for the money that you have to pay for them; even they look to be of decent value.

My strong recommendation is to try get a Sea View Cottage room on the property or book yourself in Homestays there.

MTDC is the best option to stay at Ganapatipule. The resort is 5 mins walkable to Ganesh temple and also very near to beach. This is useful for the people who wish to do early morning abhishek puja which starts at 5 am.

There are many options for rooms at this resort. We had booked the Super Deluxe A/C room well in advance through MTDC online booking portal. However need to pay luxury tax + service tax + refundable deposit (100Rs) during checkin. All the rooms are sea facing but provide no direct view of the sea. The sea view cottages sitting on the hill top will probably have a very good sea view.

Room was good with lots of space.Go with less expectations then you wont be disappointed. AC was running well. The problem was the toilet. It was not maintained properly and was dirty. Only good thing was that it had boiler, so we can have hot water as & when needed. Load shedding is rampant in this part of area. But no worries, since MTDC claimed they have generator backup.

We dined at MTDC's Tarang restaurant. The food quality was nice. Seafood was tasty. But choices are limited - only surmai, bangda, prawns. The prices are at par of
any Mumbai/Pune restaurants.Surmai Thali-300Rs, Bangda Thali- 200Rs. However the water didnt taste good. So its better to always rely on mineral water bottles.

The beach is very nice but dangerous to swim in. The best part is the Ganesha temple itself. Very calm & relaxing. The pradikshina marg is also well kept & tiled. We can take the pradikshina barefooted and it doesnt have a steep climb, so the elderies also can perform this.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at MTDC ganapatipule. Its a central location for nice beach, temple & good seafood.

MTDC guest house is in one of the best locations of the beach. All rooms face the sea. The place is spacious, calm and peaceful. The sound of the sea through day & night is so refreshing. The rooms are clean with the bear minimum necessities, but quite fine. Plenty of water available and no power cuts.

Few glitches- MTDC offers no sight-seeing options, and not much advice from the staff is forthcoming. Wish the menu included was Maharashtrain food instead of the regular menu in our city hotels. The restaurant could do with some revamping - the decor as well as the food. But the service is very fast!

Its actually mother nature finally that gets into you, all the rest forgotten and forgiven!

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea - so no problem!
