“The Milk city of India”
Reviewed 23 May 2010

Anand, a small town between mega city Ahmedabad and Baroda is an excellent place to visit once. Anand is famous for Amul or Amul is famous for Anand that is the question of debate.

The experience to visit the Amul dairy, Asias' one of the largest, was really very good. The sight of tonns of milk flowing, tonns of cheese being processed and butter milk and milk being sealed in pouch pack is worth watching.

Though its a small town, I came to know that the standard of living in this town in higher than that of Baroda or Ahmedabad. The reason suggested by most was fertile land producing Tobacco, Potatoes and Banana in abundance.

The other reason of the higher standard of living is US DOLLAR. Yes, I was told that its one of the richest district of Gujarat and atleast one person from a family was supposed to be in US or UK or any other foreign land. This was amazing news for me.

Icy-spicy, US pizza, Hungry were some of the restaurants I liked. Hungry is famous for its "matla chicken" and to have it, you have to order it in advance, :)

Forex Bureau are another special of this small town. There are money changers leading the trade in the state. Anand Money Changers (P) Limited, known as AMC is most reputed in the city. My experice with them was good. They offered better rate and the service was good.

La-casa Inn is the best hotel I liked to stay with then I came across Madhuban Resorts. If ever near Anand, I would suggest to visit this place once. Its a small village in itself but a FIVE STAR one with spa. The experice at this resort was excellent.

Another thing I liked about this city was its young population. Being nearby or you can say twin city, to Vallabh vidhyanagar, one of the town in India famous for studies keeps you in tune with young ones. Its a beauticul town, well planned and worth living.

One more town, Karamsad, about 7 kms from Anand is the Birth Place of Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the memorial their has many photos, letters and other things used by Shri Sardar Patel. The jogging track is the best there, its a world in its own. Do not miss to walk, jog on this track if you are there
