We (4 families) had visited patnitop and booked our rooms on spot after checking the hotel rooms. Though our initial impression was not a clear YES, because of initial carpet smell, but we decided to stay here. The staff is not too energetic and initiative to show different rooms was missing.
The hotel surrounding and greenery attracted us. Children loved to play in open ground in front. It was nice feel to sit in sun during cold morning times.
Food / breakfast here is not so good, very limited choice, long waiting time and costly. We had our own vehicle and so we managed this outside in Kud and sometimes in patnitop itself.
Overall nice experience because of natural beauty near location of hotel.

We were taken to this hotel by our taxi driver, so we had no expectations from this hotel. It was also on the higher side considering the facilities it offers. The rooms cost us Rs. 1600/-. The food was also pretty ordinary, however they have a decent space outside to have a quite drink or a bonfire. Moreover, it is closer to the Naag temple & a small market which is a bit of an advantage, but u have better located (& possibly cheaper) hotels all around Hotel Samson. So better make an informed decision.

We booked this hotel after seeing a few ones.

The problem with most of the hotels was hot water, as there are timings for electricity cut.
The food and room service was gud.
Since, Samson is situated at a walking distance from market so shopping was a fun.
They dont have heating controls in rooms but have provided with extra blankets so didn't a problem coz of cold weather.
Was a pleasant stay!!!

Ours was a one night stay on 30th December 2009, on our way from Srinagar to Jammu. Five of us booked two adjascent rooms (206 & 207).

From our brief experience, the hotel seemed on a bit expensive side (about Rs.1,700 per room) compared to its location and offered facilities.

Location of this large hotel is towards the right end of the town (when you face Patnitop) and faces the town instead of the valley, so do not expect a wide vista of the valley from any of its rooms.

Food prices at the restaurant were high (Coffee-Rs.45), but the quality of room service and food were decent. Room decor and furnishings were also of decent quality and looks well maintained, considering the hotel age of 13-14 years.

Gripes:

No racks to put personal toiletries in the bathrooms.

Room 207 bathroom cistern pipe had a dripping leak.

Room 206 had its telephone wires severed and the instrument put inside a drawer. Requests to restore it was not heeded to.
