This resort is quite pricey (rs 5500 odd per night for a deluxe room) but very well-maintained, prompt and friendly service. They have a playground for the kids which is a boon. The garden overlooks the valley and provides some great views. The food again is pricey but good. It's a 2 km uphill trudge to kasauli town but Kasauli is a place with nothing much to do except soak in the silence and the scenery so the non-proximity to the city is not a major liability. A great place to go if you want a quiet holiday, relaxing and doing nothing much.

I stayed in this resort for one night. The resort is well maintained. However it is a bit far from the main city of Kasauli so you are dependent on the resort only for all activities and food. The restaurant, bar, lobby all are excellent. The specialty is its garden which overlooks the valley. There are sitting benches and swings and other stuff where children can enjoy. The rooms are comfortable and service is good. Management and staff are helpful.

A very clean, quiet hotel with delightful balconies to the rooms, overlooking a large valley and to the hills opposite. Meals were very good and prices very reasonable. This hotel is some distance from the town of Kasauli and is a bit too far to walk, so a car is really necessary.

Room Tip: Probably rooms higher up are preferable for the best views.

We visited Kasauli in the Diwali week of October. Of the 4 nights available, we stayed the first two at Bird View Resort (please read my Tripadvisor review on that stay), and the last two were at Kasauli Resort, ranked #1 on Tripadvisor. In terms of tariff, it was exactly double of Bird View, so we were expecting wonders since Bird View was a good experience.

Our taxi ushered us into the Kasauli Resort, one morning, into a rather cramped entrance for a large resort. There was parking space, of course, but I was expecting more space from a resort this size. Anyway, we went to the reservation desk quickly and got registered. The lobby was good, with lot of seating space, plush sofas, nice paintings on the walls, and some good lighting. Obviously, one is encouraged to spend some time in the lobby and enjoy the splendor.

The way to the room was a standard hotel corridor, and when we unlocked the room, we found ourselves entering a standard hotel room. Get in, put the key in the keyholder to enable the lights. Immediately after you cannot miss to stare at the washroom on the left, and once you cross the small passage, you get into the room with the 21” TV on your right, a queen size bed on your left with two lights on both sides. One can see a balcony where the bed ends, with two chairs and a table just before the balcony entrance so that two people can take their food peacefully. We opened the door to get on to the balcony, and stared out to the lawns, which was dotted with Delhites, some reading, some playing cricket with the wickets being a signboard saying “Do not play cricket”. Some were strolling and loudly conversing in the process. We looked at each other in some dismay, as we had come to enjoy the tranquility of Kasauli, which the reviews say is a sleepy town. Here, no one seemed to be sleepy by even a wide margin, and we were in fact expecting an equally loud night also.

Well, what to do, we went down for food. The restaurant can accommodate several people, and in fact has an extension in the open as well. Food was tasteful, but is the standard fare, nothing to write stories about. Compared to Bird View, where we took homely food in our room, completely in midst of nature, in complete silence, here we seemed to be eating in a typical Delhi restaurant. The night time was even more crowded and cacophonic, since it was buffet time.

After food, my son wanted to play TT, so we went up to their games area. There was no one there, so both of us had some good time together, and even played some video games.

So, in the end, the less reviewed Bird View Resort gave us more memories than the top ranked Kasauli Resort. Not that Kasauli Resort is bad, it is a nice hotel, but since it is well known, it gets crowded, and that spoils the fun for those who have gone to find some solitude. It will probably be good for business meetings, should you want to come out of town with your senior management to a hilly location. The hotel claims facilities to satisfy business customers, at least I saw computers and some infrastructure towards that.

I don’t think I will go to Kasauli Resort again, but that is purely a matter of personal choice, not the hotel’s fault.

This hotel is a very nice place in which to stay. It is located about 2 (steep) km from the small Raj-era town of Kasauli, which contains several attractive heritage buildings. It is also the starting point for some pleasant walks and trails.

The rooms were nicely furnished, with great views towards Shimla and the mountains beyond. If you are visiting in winter, you may find the heating inadequate. Staff were friendly and the food and service were good. There is no point in not taking the package including meals, as there is nowhere else to go for dinner in the vicinity.

The hotel were helpful in arranging cars to collect us from Kalka Station on arrival (about 1 hour away), for local journeys while we were there and to take us on to Shimla (about 2½ hours drive).

On the edge of Kasauli is Monkey Point, from which there are extensive views in every direction – worth the effort of getting there (up a well maintained stairway and path). There is also a very welcome drinks stall at the top! As this viewpoint is within an air force base, no cameras are permitted (and passports must be produced to gain access).
