A stay in Luci sul Gofo is an absolute delight. With so many small and big details to highlight it's hard to pick one. Ultimately, it all comes down to people and, simply put, Paola and Maurizio are the best hosts we have ever met. It's not that they did "all they could to accommodate to our needs" or that were "knowledgeable and flexible." No. They made us feel important, appreciated, special – they made us feel as though we were their old friends coming back for a short visit, and during that brief period of time (four days, in our case) they made us feel, well, unique. Like royalty. In doing so, Paola and Maurizio never came across as "hosts going the extra mile". They were simply giving their hearts out, effortlessly, naturally.

But I'll get more specific. We stayed four night and in three of them, Paola prepared for us a four-course menu (with wine, coffee and digestive included) of authentic, fresh, hand-made Ligurian and Tuscan food. We could see into Paola's kitchen from the terrace while we were drinking a glass of wine or a beer. I mean, just being able to watch her prepare dinner for us, with meat, sea food and produce bought that very day from the local markets – it's such a treat. The food wasn't "good"; it was delicious. For a family of two adults and three little kids, the value (at 25EUR/adult and 7/kid) is unbeatable. The breakfast, although a bit more mainstream, was varied every morning, surprisingly abundant, fresh and tasty.

The property is so pretty, impeccably clean, and inviting. Our room (we had the biggest one in the house) was cleaned up daily and the beds made. I don't know how many B&B in this price range or even higher will do that for you.

I know I've used above the term "value" – but it doesn't make any justice to Paola and Maurizio. As far as I'm concerned, Luci sul Golfo is not about value. As Paola told me, "we know that for our guests their vacation days, whether it's a day or two weeks, are sacrosanct. We do everything to live up to that."

A very warm welcome was the prelude of a perfect stay, though we do not understand Italian that well, we communicated with the owners in such an overwhelming charming way. The house itself is wonderful decorated outside and inside, the several terrasses and the garden a delight. Though very hot at 5terre at the time, the location itself cools down well by the evening. Ideal to discover cinqueterre, but also the rest of the environment is really recommendable. Like Sarzano, a real discovery, where their osteria "panzallegra" is located; Maurizio offered us one of the best meals we have eaten yet in Italy : very tasty, original combinations, full of taste and plenty...combined with a perfect wine. The breakfasts were the same, and you feel each time that Maurizio and Paola do their utmost to make you feel so comfortable. Their daughter Monica was also very helpful in planning our trips. Maybe we'll come back once to cinqueterre for it's beauty, but for sure we'll come back to this B&B for this top hospitality.

Room Tip: The terrasses/balconies are perfectly fit for a bottle of wine in the evening, while enjoying the sun going down and the fresh wind coming up. The view of La Spezia by night is lovely.

Conveniently located on a hill overlooking the Gulf of La Spezia this ancient farmhouse has been completely renovated with "gusto", to include a small stable with a friendly mare that will let kids (and adults) feed her carrots. The keepers are among the friendliest we have ever met and will go out of their way to help guests. Breakfasts include fresh-made croissants with homemade jams...We look forward to returning as soon as we can. The place is suitable for family with kids.
