Owner description: This great little award-winning and family-friendly Museum contains two fun and fact-packed biographical galleries, the fantabulous interactive Story Centre and a sunny courtyard. Situated in Great Missenden where Roald Dahl lived for over 36 years, it was created as a home for the author’s archive (which visitors can see on our regular tours) and as a place to inspire creativity and a love of reading in children, about which Roald Dahl was passionate.

“Not impressed - nor would Roald be!!”
Reviewed 8 November 2011

We arrived with an open mind and a love of the stories. The staff were only really interested in selling the ticket. You are given it and then shown the door into the first room. The first room you enter basic to say the least and disjointed, but if we had a guide full of enthusiasm it could be made magic for kids. But we did not and none were offered. We were left to find our own way round. We saw Roald's flying goggles and a video of him flying a plane. The next large room was primarily built around Roald's writing chair. Then you are back into the courtyard pas the school trip dining area and on you way out. A very sad commercial memorial to a great story teller who fired children's imagination, but obviously not the museum creators.
In conclusion, even on wet day, move on unless you are under 10years old and someone else is paying.

“What a waste of time.”
Reviewed 1 November 2011

Very disappointed with the place. Web site very misleading. Nothing to see and do. The things that are there have nothing to do with the books he wrote. Waste of money, only took 20 minutes to see everything.

“Small but fun & interesting for any Roahd Dahl fans & deeelicuious cakes!”
Reviewed 13 September 2011

We had already read Dahl biographies & all his books & short stories, but listening to it in the museum & reading excerpts from his notes along with seeing so many photos & interesting objects really brought it all to life. Yes, the museum is small, but there is a lot of information to read and also some fun activities for children...which we also had fun playing with!! It seemed modern & there was only 1 activity I noticed was not working. All ground floor, easy to navigate a pushchair around. The staff are very friendly & knowldegeable & extremely enthusiastic. The shop had some nice items & wasn't unreasonable in comparison to similiar shops I have been to. We had a lovely panini, coffee & cake in the Twits cafe. We also had a pleasant walk to the church to see his grave & enjoyed the quaint shops in Great Missenden. We spent around 3 & a half hours in total there & there are plenty of other things to see in the beautiful county of Buckinghamshire.
