Owner description: This great little award-winning and family-friendly Museum contains two fun and fact-packed biographical galleries, the fantabulous interactive Story Centre and a sunny courtyard. Situated in Great Missenden where Roald Dahl lived for over 36 years, it was created as a home for the author’s archive (which visitors can see on our regular tours) and as a place to inspire creativity and a love of reading in children, about which Roald Dahl was passionate.

Very disappointed with the place. Web site very misleading. Nothing to see and do. The things that are there have nothing to do with the books he wrote. Waste of money, only took 20 minutes to see everything.

We had already read Dahl biographies & all his books & short stories, but listening to it in the museum & reading excerpts from his notes along with seeing so many photos & interesting objects really brought it all to life. Yes, the museum is small, but there is a lot of information to read and also some fun activities for children...which we also had fun playing with!! It seemed modern & there was only 1 activity I noticed was not working. All ground floor, easy to navigate a pushchair around. The staff are very friendly & knowldegeable & extremely enthusiastic. The shop had some nice items & wasn't unreasonable in comparison to similiar shops I have been to. We had a lovely panini, coffee & cake in the Twits cafe. We also had a pleasant walk to the church to see his grave & enjoyed the quaint shops in Great Missenden. We spent around 3 & a half hours in total there & there are plenty of other things to see in the beautiful county of Buckinghamshire.

Great location in a lovely little town, the Roald Dahl Museum is well worth a visit!
It was raining when we visited but that doesn’t matter as most of the attractions are in doors. We booked in for a Story Maker session with Martin Riley (Superb fella) and enjoyed a workshop for story writing around mysterious Boggarts and how to capture children’s imaginations and minds. Interactive with lots of things to do, this attraction is best suited to 6 - 10 year olds. Great gift shop and the staff are helpful, warm and friendly. Well done to the whole establishment for getting it so right!

A really lovely place to visit, well laid out, thought through and very enjoyable for all.
I took a 5 and 7 year old who both loved every part of it. Plenty for readers and non readers alike, although 6 years plus probably do get a little more from what it has to offer.
There is a huge arts and craft area (s), imaginative play areas, dressing up, history, mock up of his writing room, the list goes on.
The staff could not be more helpful. You didn't need to ask them anything, they spontaneously just started chatting to the kids with snippets of info aimed at their age.
We only had a couple of hours there, but lots more to do.
We will be back.
As for the negative reviews on here - beggars belief what people expect, not everywhere is £30 a head and roller coaster after roller coaster. Imagination.....

Went here with a friend one Sunday. OK, we;re not kids, but we do like Roald Dahl.
It began well with the timeline of his life and archive material... but went down from there. Not enough stuff. Lots of things broken. I;d be fed up even if I was a child. And I would be reluctant to take a child there... Shame because there is some good stuff in there and imaginative displays, but not enough and in desperate need of TLC.
In addition, Great Missenden may as well have tumbleweeds on a Sunday. ITs completely dead. Few shops open. Very little to see or do.
