Beautiful setting and sports centre, stayed one night on a business trip,as this place is miles away from any eateries decided to dine there,we booked in and the receptionist was most helpful, booked evening meal, breakfast was included in booking.
Arrived at the restaurant for our meal to find people queued up,,you had to collect your tray and plate as you went in,then you were confronted by alpine of people dishing
The food on your plate like a scene from a prison, the food was barely edible.i had stir fried chicken my colleague had gammon.
The stir fry had no flavour ang the gammon was like shoe leather.the only plus was the soup,!
Breakfast was even worse the bacon, eggs and scrambled egg. We're swimming in water it was basically crap.undercooked.
Really disappointed with the food standards, expected more from a prestigious establishment.

Thank you for the feedback on your recent stay at Lilleshall. We're sorry to hear that the food was not to your satisfaction. We do state it is a self-service restaurant but are disappointed that you found the food barely edible as our menus and concepts are designed to provide balanced food, from predominantly British produce, using contemporary cooking techniques – to reduce fat and salt levels – in line with FSA standards. Wherever possible, this includes the use of local and/or regional
produce to nurture the notion of seasonality. If a guest speaks to our chefs, we are, where possible, able to cook the food to individual requirements.

The room was spotless and comfortable. The shower room was compact but had all you would need. The only negatives were that the room was freezing, the radiators had not been turned on yet and there was no extra blanket and parking near the accommodation is very limited, but there is plenty of parking in the general sports facility car park a few minutes walk away.

The breakfast was fine with plenty of choice, but you are in a student environment so expect to queue for the cooked breakfast.

Overall if the rooms were warmer we would not hesitate to stay for an overnight stay.

Thank you for the feedback on your recent stay at Lilleshall. We're sorry to hear that your bedroom was cold. As part of our drive to reduce our carbon footprint, we do turn down the radiators when the rooms are not is use. We're also sorry that you had to queue for breakfast. Unfortunately as it is self-service, during busy periods, we do sometimes experience a little bit of a wait, however we are continually looking at ways to reduce the time that guests do have to wait. We do hope that you will visit us again.

Absolutely rubbish, photograph shows a lovely old building. In truth it's uni digs. No restaraunt, no telephone or signal, which rubbish.would have been more comfortable in a tent. Unless you are under 20, into sports training, forget it.

Thank you for the feedback on your recent stay at Lilleshall. We are disappointed to hear that it wasn't a pleasurable stay. A photograph of the main house ishown as this is where breakfast is served and is also where our self-service restaurant is located. These are described within the description on all 3rd party websites which also say that unfortunately no rooms are available in the main house and rooms are instead located within separate accommodation blocks. Images also show what can be expected within the accommodation. Meal times within the main dining room are restricted to certain times (lunch between 12.30 - 1.30pm and dinner between 6.30 - 7.30pm) however we do also have an onsite cafe bar where a selection of sandwiches, snacks, pizzas, paninis and hot specials are served until 10pm. Unfortunately due to the location of the Centre, mobile signal is restricted for those that are not on O2, however we do offer complimentary WI-FI.

Beautiful location, fantastic sporting facility BUT! It's offered on various hotel websites, anyone can stay there & I really struggle to see why Lilleshall nsc is marketing the place as such!

Certainly novel to stay in but couldn't help but feel we were paying a lot (£86), for little more than youth hostel accommodation, that even as an elite sports person I would've been dissatisfied with!

The taps at the lowered sink in the bathroom were nothing less than hopeless - supposedly water saving, except they were so stiff, they either dribbled ineffectively or sprayed high pressure over the walls, floor & u! Very annoying & definitely not saving water! The lowered sink was pointless, never could a wheelchair fit through that bathroom doorway!?! There was a sensor light which was obviously on a timer ....ok that's fine EXCEPT that the room has no natural light & the sensor kept timing out when I was in the shower! Annoying yes, frustrating yes & very dangerous! Wet, slippy, unfamiliar surroundings & dark : disaster waiting to happen Lilleshall!

The room had a few phone sockets but no phone... now I accept that most people have mobiles, however in an emergency a direct line would be useful as we stayed in Kent block & it is quite a way from the main house/reception!

Breakfast - oh dear! 7:30 till 8:30, even on a Sunday! This is particularly bizarre as check out is later & the place is offered as a wedding venue! And when u bother to go it is rather disappointing as the cooked offerings are tasteless &, the seating arrangements are so youth hostel like it's scary - there's plenty of tables, why can't some be for 2 instead of 4 plus?

So, in summary - fabulous setting, great views from rooms, comfy beds, love the history &, gorgeous gardens with some of the best & most unique sporting facilities! My advice - Cater for all your guests Lilleshall or stop offering accommodation to the general public!

Room Tip: great views from Kent Hall

Thank you for the feedback on your recent stay at Lilleshall. We’re sorry to hear that the facilities were not to your satisfaction. We do try to promote the accommodation and other facilities as accurately as possible within the scope of what the booking sites will allow and therefore advertise as a bed and breakfast.

As regards the breakfast, we do serve this later for Wedding parties and for large groups who have pre-arranged it. Our food is all cooked on site and is freshly made and we encourage customers to approach staff if they are not happy so that we can take measures to ensure satisfaction. Our smallest tables do cater for 4 chairs, however, unless we are extremely busy, different groups tend to sit with their own parties.

We have not received any feedback of late regarding the problems you experienced within the bathroom so if you could please email us at enquiries.lilleshall@serco.com or telephone us on 01952 603 003 to inform us of the room that you were staying in and the date of your visit we will investigate the issues you describe further.

Thank you

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Lilleshall was originally built in 1831 as the hunting lodge and family retreat of the Duke of Sutherland. It first became a National Sports Centre in 1951 and was opened by the then Princess Elizabeth II with the original plaque still in place in the entrance to the main hall. It was Lilleshall's connection with Association Football that brought the Centre to the attention of the nation. The England team trained for two weeks at Lilleshall prior to their success in the World Cup of 1966. In 1967, Sir Alfred Ramsey returned to the Centre to unveil a plaque to commemorate his team's stay and endorse the view that Lilleshall could justly claim some credit for England's famous victory. In 1984 The Football Association's School of Excellence was established welcoming young talent such as Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher, Sol Campbell and Joe Cole to name but a few. Today Lilleshall is an elite training centre for some of the country's leading sportsmen and women and regularly welcomes use by numerous sports bodies. With its unique and rich heritage and commitment to providing a World Class Experience, Lilleshall is a certainly a place where you can wake up and feel inspired. Lilleshall is situated among the spectacular and secluded surroundings of the Shropshire countryside within 134 hectares of English Heritage Grade II listed grounds. The main house (Lilleshall Hall) overlooks the beautiful Capability Brown inspired gardens. As well as a range of world class facilities available for use (bookable in advance), the Centre has two walking routes. The 2.5 mile Discovery Trail will provide you with the chance to discover some of Lilleshall's many gems including the Italian Water Garden, the Pet Cemetery and the World Class Sports Facilities. The 6 mile Adventure Fitness Trail enables you to discover these gems but also provides you with the chance to test your fitness, taking you through the woodland belts alongside the estate's 2 mile sweeping drive to the golden gates (an exact replica of those at Buckingham Palace), before returning (a steady climb all the way!) to explore the heart of the estate. Work is also underway on a nature trail which is due to be open in the Summer. Visitors can reserve rooms in one of three purpose built accommodation blocks, a short walk from reception, the dining room and bar. (Sorry no rooms available in the main house). Room facilities include tea & coffee making, digital HD television, hairdryers and free WIFI along with ample free parking. There is a cafe bar open from 7:30 - 23:00 where you can enjoy hot and cold food and drinks. Beyond the site, Lilleshall is well placed for many local attractions including Weston Park, Ironbridge Gorge and Museums, Hoo Farm, Telford Town Park and Wonderland, The Wrekin, RAF Museum Cosford, Telford Ski Centre and Telford International Centre. The historic market town of Newport, where you will find many independent shops, pubs and restaurants, is approximately 4 miles away. Telford, with its many tourist attractions, shopping centre, cafes, bars, restaurants and cinemas, is within a 15 minute drive. The towns of Stafford, Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury are all within a 25 minute drive. Room prices start from just £38.50.
