The hotel is overlooking a dam with beautiful water views. The hot springs are great. The dinner was excellent with great staff. The front desk is also great. It's a very enjoyable place to dust with lots of local hiking and beautiful views

Stayed 1 night here during the Golden week holiday.
The check-in was fast. Coffee and tea were available at the lounge for free.
There is a park about 3 mins walk from the hotel. We took a stroll at the park with the beautiful view of the Nukui Dam.
We did not walk further to the hill as lots of bugs were flying around.
We got back to the hotel just before the sun set. We had dinner (course menu) at the restaurant. The food tasted good but not special.
The room was clean and spacious with a sofa and coffee table.
A great view of the Nukui Dam from the balcony of the room made it perfect.
The bathroom was not that big but it was clean and the amenities were good.
There are open hot spring, large bath, and sauna room on the first floor. The hot spring was lukewarm.
Breakfast was served at the same restaurant where we had dinner.
It was just OK.
Overall it was a very relaxing stay.

This modern Japanese Inn was probably built in the 80's and the main areas were renovated in recent years. This hotel is a decent option in an off-the-beaten-track location in the mountains an hour or two drive outside of Hiroshima. I give it a 'very good' as opposed to an 'average' rating mainly because of the remote location. The rooms are simple Japanese style rooms - nothing fancy - and ours had a view of the surrounding hills and water (which is part of a dam). The meals were fine and included many fish dishes - some a bit unusual for my taste. As for sleeping, the futon was very firm, so I would suggest asking them in advance to add a couple futons when they make your bed at night. If you wake up a bit stiff, head to the the hot springs in the basement which were straight forward - clean, hot, bubbly and relaxing. The area surrounding Nukui Springs is incredibly beautiful with a great deal to offer, though you will need transportation to get around. We made all our arrangements for sightseeing through our travel agent - everything she arranged was amazing and highly recommended.

Akiota was not found in our travel guides, but it is well worth the trouble to find. There is a magnificent hike along the Sandankyo Gorge, paved the entire way with almost no other people on it. This area gave us a taste of the "real" Japan, outside of the cities and the normal tourist spots. This hotel had a lovely large Japanese-style room, with some Western amenities to make it more comfortable for foreign tourists. The dinners were the best meals we had in all of Japan, including fine expensive dinners in Japan's biggest cities. The people of the town are incredibly kind and helpful, and appreciative of the few tourists who visit here. We will recommend it to everyone (and hope we don't spoil it by doing so)!

Room Tip: Request a lake view, away from the elevator.
