Hakuba is a great alternative to Niseko with less people and a more authentic Japanese experience. Our stay at Wadano Forest Hotel was pleasant. The staff was helpful and definitely made our stay more enjoyable. Our kids were able to walk across the street to ski down the hill into Sakka lift; so the location is convenient for skiing purposes. For dining, you can walk down the hill or take a taxi for a short ride to Happo village. The hotel is old but clean and functional. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Bathroom is a bit small but again functional. Overall the hotel meets the basic needs of a family ski holiday. It was a great introduction to Hakuba and will surely come back.

We just returned from our first family skiing holiday. What a blast! The lovely staff at Wadano Forest Hotel made the whole experience as enjoyable as possible. Unfailingly helpful & accomodating to us newbs. Ever ready to help us with the dilemmas of 'how to get to ski lifts/ski hire?', 'where to eat?' - 'how to get there?' etc. Really 1st class service and attention. Clean, neat rooms. Pretty views. Terrific (and oh so necessary) onsen in-house. Breakfasts were great.

Room tip: best views face the mountain, overlooking the front entrance

Fantastic place to stay, extremely helpful and friendly staff. Good location, offered a shuttle bus service to wherever we wanted to go. We were offered lots of suggestions of where to eat, what to do etc etc , the staff organised bookings and dropped us off at convenient locations . They also gave us lots of helpful tips. The rooms were clean and well furnished. We all enjoyed our stay here.

I stayed here from 5 to 10 Jan 17 with my son Tomas, and can honestly say Josh made us welcome from the beginning when he came out to meet us and carry our bags to the last day when he saw us coming up the road he came out to carry our skis. The location is good being close to lifts and restaurants. And Josh will happily make reservations for you and even give you a lift. I recommend this as a place to stay and when i go back i will be staying there again. Well done to the whole team. Gary and Tomas. Gold Coast Australia.

I stayed in the Wadano Forest Hotel during a snowboarding trip to Hakuba over the new year break. This hotel is located conveniently 10 minutes walk away from the Sakka chairlift and 5 minutes away from nearby restaurants and bars which makes it an ideal location when one plans to hit the Hakuba slopes.

We were met by Josh (General Manager) and his team (Jay, Yusuke). Josh is from San Francisco and has been in the area for well over a decade. During our stay his hospitality and attentiveness was second to none. We were shown our rooms and were given thorough briefing regarding the hotel facilities, local transportations and numerous tips for food options. Also note that Josh is perfectly fluent in Japanese and he helped arranging dinner bookings, equipment fitting appointments etc. Josh is very knowledgeable and well-articulated and was always prompt and attentive with our requests. Jay was also very friendly and picked us up from Happo Bus station and would give us a lift to restaurants in the evening. Yusuke is native Japanese and also fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, he was ever so friendly and would go out of his way to assist us. I was personally overwhelmed with the level of service and helpfulness from the team and was made to feel like home.

In terms of the room, I stayed in a double room which was fairly spacious. Room was adequately equipped and easy to operate - no messing around with remote control and there was a simple but efficient heater switch to adjust temperature for your liking. Bed was very comfortable and there was good supply of hot beverages in the room. Toilet and bathroom were typical of Japanese standards which some might find slightly small for their liking. There was also a helpful user manual which Josh himself wrote, providing information re local transportation, restaurant options, health and safety procedures etc. Wifi was of good speed and had not experienced disconnection during my stay.

In terms of facilities, there is an onsen at the hotel which was clean and quiet. One can really relax and release the muscle pain after a long hard day on the slope.
For those of you who prefer to drive, there is a car park outside the hotel. Alternatively one can take the Genki bus for 500 yen or a cab which costs circa 2000 yen back to WFH after your night out in town.

I would rate my overall experience of my stay at WFH as excellent. Thanks again to Josh and his team for the warm welcome and their guidance on all you need to know about Hakuba. I would definitely highly recommend WFH.

Room tip: Great location, staff very friendly, great local knowledge
