I visited the Danish Fort at Tharangambadi around a year vack, along with my family. It is a few kilometres off the main road to Karaikal.
But it is definitely worth a visit. the ruins are fairly intact, and the small museum attached to fort is absorbing. You realise that India was a major attraction for a number of European Powers (apart from the English and the French) in the 16-17th century, when you see that even the Danes set up a settlement here. And there is a 200-250 years old church closeby, in very good condition, with danish architecture and design. The fort is bang on the sea beach, and will get eroded soon, unless something is done.
It was a very enjoyable half day offshoot from my main trip to Karaikal.
