I had planned a short ski break as part of a vacation in Japan. I booked four nights at this hotel. It is a slightly shabby family run place, and the price of 14,000 yen per night (without breakfast or dinner) turned out to be quite high for the area, especially for a down-at-the-heels hotel not in the best location.
On the eve of my final night, I became ill. The next morning I woke with a high fever, and two of the hotel staff took me to the doctor at the ski area. The hotel allowed me to stay on, thankfully, and I slept the better part of the next days.
Yesterday morning, after my second extended night of stay, I was still feeling very poorly, and on the advice of a doctor back home I asked the staff if they could help me go back to the doctor or check into a hospital.
Instead, they brightly announced to me that there was no more room for me that evening. They gave me an hour's notice to leave the hotel. The hotel is a two hour bus ride from the nearest city, Nagano. So, I packed my things in a fog and dragged them out through the snow to the bus stop. They did not provide any help with onward booking.
I have stayed in many hotels all over the world, and this is the worst service I have received. I think this family should sell the hotel and get out of the business. They should not be in the business of providing service to guests if they cannot bring themselves to help a guest in need, a long way from home.
