For some reason, I had become totally inactive on TA, with the last review written about 3 years ago. It’s taken a stay at Shergarh to change that, and I could not have written a review for what, in my experience, has been the best overall jungle experience in India. You know your choice is right the moment you receive a response to your enquiry, which is very detailed, and gives you critical info on availability of safari bookings and suggestions to shuffle your travel dates so that you can get the maximum number of game rides in the park. Of all lodges/hotels we sent enquiries to, Shergarh was the only one to give this info. The rest were more interested in getting room nights confirmed first.

The experience continues when, at arrival you get a detailed brochure of all the flora and fauna at the park and within the property, and a guide of common birds that you could expect to see! Our 6-year old took these on all rides and kept himself busy ticking off everything we sighted.

One of the two in-house naturalists accompany you on safaris and our guide was Raj, who has spent 15 odd years at Kanha and knows pretty much everything about the park. We spotted Tigers in 4 of the 5 safaris we did, in addition to the number of other animal, bird and tree species. In case there are more guests, an outside guide is engaged and we did one safari with Alam who also was excellent, and had the same enthusiasm in making your safari experience memorable.

The stay, service and hospitality rounded off the overall great stay. The staff are all locals and are very efficient, always around to help but unobtrusive. Neville, Katie and Jehan are very friendly and go the extra mile (usually 2 or 3 miles!) to make your stay memorable. Special mention for the lovely food. All dishes at all meals were delicious and a brownie we had for dessert could give the best bakeries in the largest Indian cities a run for their money. Breakfast is on-the-go in the jungle during safaris, lunch is in the main house (in summers) and dinners are candle-lit and under the stars.

We’ll definitely be back and anyone considering a date with the tigers, look no further than Shergarh.

This was my first visit to India, but a return visit for my husband. Our stay at Shergarh was three nights. We had an amazingly lucky time in terms of wildlife guided by the wonderful Raj. Moreover, Katie & Jehan and their team's hospitality and attention to detail is second to none. We felt like we were staying with friends who knew our needs before we did. Thank you.

Room Tip: All rooms are secluded and peaceful.

This was our first Indian safari camp and we weren't disappointed. Neville and his team were so hospitable. We were also impressed with Raj, our safari guide, who found us 5 tigers including 2 cubs in 2 nights! All the staff were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay special. The tents weren't luxurious but very clean and comfortable with big bathrooms. We would definitely stay here again!

Everything was wonderful and our every need was taken care of. The outdoor dining experiences are memorable - and if you are lucky there is also an evening fire fly display. Raj, the naturalist, has exceptional knowledge of all things wild. We even had hot water bottles and blankets for a chilly start to a safari. Thanks to Neville and all of the staff for a great stay.

Stayed at Shergarh for three nights and was very impressed with the accommodation in the tents. The service was excellent with Neville managing everything efficiently. The owner, Katie, is a beautiful host. The food is good and the naturalists very knowledgeable.
