This camp is a very special place to stay. Run by Katie and Jehan who truly care about their staff and their environment. It was like being welcomed into their family home and being given a warm hug.
Lovely tented camp – huge beds, lovely bathroom/dressing room and the whole camp carefully laid out to give privacy on the deck of each tent.
The staff from the local village are all wonderful – they are so dedicated and work incredibly well as a team – the food was both varied and tasty – the excellent dressed salad at lunch each day was fresh from the garden and the lemon tart and chocolate brownies were both superb and so unexpected. We really enjoyed the variety of “Indian snacks” and the picnic breakfast and lunch that they packed for us when we left was particularly good and set us up for our long travel day.
Our various game drives with Jehan and with Raj were both exciting and informative – we were so lucky with tiger sightings and we thoroughly enjoyed the variety that Kanha has to offer. All your senses are heightened on safari. You listen for the warning calls from Sambar and Spotted deer hopeful of seeing one of the big cats. The bird song is like Jungle music and the smell of the “mint” type plant within the forest once warmed by the sun is memorable.
We would love to return one day and explore the surrounding villages as well as returning to the park.
If you only stay in one place on safari in Rural India make it this one, it is extra special.

We have traveled widely across India and stayed in many places, but Shergarh is an exception! What makes it so different?
1) There are just six tented accommodations spread around the property. That provides lots of privacy and exclusiveness.
2) Each tent is beautifully furnished, with attention to even the smallest details
3) It is the quiet attention to details that is distinctive: hot water bottles in the bed which makes the bed warm, blankets with hot water bottle when you go for safaris in the morning, warm towels with a drink on return from the safaris. Finally when you finish dinner and walk up to your tent there is a person waiting unobtrusively with a torch to guide you back! Amazing!!
4) Absolutely delightful food, with lovely variations! Lunch is often served near the water body and the dinner in the main hall with a lighted fireplace!
5) Very talented naturalists who take such interest to show you the fauna and flora of the place.
6) Exceptional personal attention and genuine warmth of Katie & Jehan. They are the epitome of the saying that "true hospitality consists of giving the best of yourself to your guests"!

We stayed for three nights in January 2017. Lovely place! I can only repeat what previous reviewers have said, namely the food was great, the beds and tents were very comfortable, the naturalist was very good - it was all brilliant. We were lucky enough to have a tiger sighting which was a real highlight but, even without that, the Park was lovely: sambal, spotted deer, reed buck, a sloth bear, eagles, kingfishers, jackal and more.... My absolutely favourite game drive was up to the old village of Khana, through the sal forest.

A fabulous time - and I would like to go back and enjoy more of the surrounding countryside next time.

Shergarh itself has all the comfort of 'glamping' without losing any of the nature. The tents give privacy and beautiful views of the pond. The common house is a great place to meet fellow travelers from around the world, and share truly delicious meals. Jehan, Katie and their children think of everything to welcome guests and make them feel at home. We were there in winter, so nightly bonfires encouraged togetherness and education about the area. When you leave, you realize all the wonderful animals were just the icing on the cake of an exceptional experience.

Shergarh is extraordinary: a beautiful lodge, meticulously cared for by a kind and gracious staff, providing expert naturalist guides, and located right next to one of India's premier parks, Kanha Tiger Reserve. I have visited ecolodges on five continents, and Shergarh is truly one of the finest.
