A family run lodge that provides a surprising level of service. The owners really care about you, the environment, and delivering good food and first class accommodation. They provide added value by providing nature walks in the property and down to the river (where there were tiger and otter tracks) and have a detailed knowledge of the fauna and flora that they are prepared to share. A lesson in Indian cookery was a bonus! Tarun drove us on one safari providing an excellent insight into the forest life and increasing our enjoyment of the experience, and Vinod accompanied us on another, providing a level of knowledge that is only possible if you live and breathe a genuine interest in the reserve. There were so many little details that illustrate the care shown by Dimple and her team - welcome cards in the rooms, flower arrangements, home made biscuits and cakes on offer with tea and coffee, welcoming hot or cold towels every time you return to the lodge together with hot or cold drinks - the list goes on. It is best summarised by saying that if I ever visit Kanha reserve again there is no doubt which lodge I will be staying at.

Room Tip: All rooms the same except for the room that was occupied by the king of Sweden and that has a tree growing through it and a private patio!

The 3 nights spent at the Kanha Jungle Lodge were a unique experience for us. Apart from the green and lovely surroundings, we were completely charmed by the interesting layout of the lodge - picturesque - as if a part of nature itself, yet with all modern facilities and comfortable rooms; also the meticulous attention paid to every detail of our comfort. Food was excellent, healthy and imaginatively served. And the overall care and warmth given by Dimple, Tarun and indeed entire staff made it all very special. In the course of our 4 safaris, we saw 8 tigers, numerous deer, variety of birds and indeed a huge python and so many other animals and were overwhelmed by the a atmosphere of the jungle, so novel for city bred people.

We were a party of 5, all very senior citizens- 3 school friends from the 1950s, a sister of one and a spouse of another. We flew into Raipur from Delhi, and were picked up in an Innova car to take us on the 4 hour drive to the Jungle Lodge.Very pretty road. Turning into the gate of the Jungle Lodge and stopping under the mahua tree we had no idea of the wonderful ambience we were walking up to. The winding cowdung washed path leads you to unbelievable surroundings. A square tiled gazebo on the left to sit and read magazines, a little cute temple on the right, and a large circular thatched open room for all seasons and all activities, with maps and charts about the tiger reserve. The cottages we were led to were charming, with all facilities, and indeed were luxurious. We were most appreciative of the little touches done by Dimple, to welcome us to the room. The bathroom was most comfortable, and the bed.. ah such a delight to sink into after a bumpy safari!! Dimple and Tarun are truly hospitable and take extra care to look after the guests .. they go the extra mile so that we felt pampered beyond belief. Every little concern was attended to pronto. And they fed us.. how they fed us!!!!.. the food was superb, such a variety of dishes at every meal and all beautifully arranged, the dining table colorfully and elegantly laid out. The different breads all made in-house, the range of salads and soups, the variety of main dishes and the desserts, all mouth watering and all destined to make on put on weight!!! The chefs are culinary geniuses and Dimple is an expert at making up menus. And all of the staff were most attentive and helpful. A torn bag was instantly stitched by the in-house tailor!
Mr Vinod, the naturalist guide, and Tarun, are extremely knowledgeable guides , who took us on the safaris into the tiger reserve, explaining about all the animals and the trees and other flora, and the birds . We were extremely fortunate to see tigers on 3 of our 4 safaris. The breakfasts that are beautifully packed for our morning safaris are wholesome, tasty and very filling. And we always returned after every safari to cold/hot natural drinks and more tit-bits. This is not a place to visit if you are on a diet!!!
We were happy to meet the volunteer naturalist, James.
A walk down to the Bangar River is a lesson in wildflowers and insects given by Dimple.
Every guest is made most welcome, and even coddled... we have rarely seen such hospitality. Sitting and dining under the stars, the tranquillity and silence except for morning birdsong is a memory to treasure.
On the whole this was an experience way beyond our wildest dreams and expectations. It was absolutely SUPER and all of us in the group were most delighted with this trip , in every way possible.
Thank you Dimple and Tarun, and Vinod, and all the staff in the Jungle Lodge, and Radhika , masterminding everything from Delhi.
We had a sublime time.
We cannot recommend this jungle lodge except in superlative terms.

It's not "luxurious", but hey, it's in the middle of the forest, and it can certainly be classified as idyllic. Understated luxury at affordable pricing would be a good description. In mid-May, we had the place almost to ourselves, and were well looked after. The resident naturalists give great game drives into the park - and, unlike parks in Africa, the drives are long - 6 hours in the morning and 3 in the late afternoon. To avoid too many jeeps in one place, the park management specify which of 3 regions each drive takes place in - so, with different regions each time, over 2 days you get to see a lot of variety. There are 35,000 deer, so they're spotted without any problem, but only about 100 tigers - but we saw several, and understand that most people get lucky. We also saw bears, bison, monkeys and much else. It's uncrowded and a fabulous experience - you need 2 days and 3 nights to do it properly.
The lodge provides excellent food for lunch and dinner, and also sends a packed breakfast out with the morning game drive - it's quite impressive setting out breakfast with tablecloth and all at a dining hall in the middle of the park!
Everything about this lodge and Kanha park is to be recommended.

The short walk from the parking area to the reception treats you to a wide variety of butterflies and is just magical. You know this is going to be a really good lodge and a special place to stay. A warm reception from the staff, a briefing from Vinod and Vinay the naturalists and we are shown to our room. The cottage lodge room was occupied by Swedish royalty a couple of decades ago and is a beautiful room, with a delightful rear veranda and great air conditioning.
The food is very tasty and continental food is provided also. The staff are incredible, very attentive, efficient but without being intrusive.
The jeeps are very comfortable and have raised seats giving a clear view all around, instead of looking at the back of the drivers head or the roof.
The only thing we will point out is that as you wait to go into the parks, local people will approach your vehicle asking to get into the spare seats (obviously if your jeep is full this is not an issue). A polite but firm no is all that is needed.
The naturalist, Vinay has so much knowledge and really knows so much about the animals, flora and birds. He has a wonderful sense of humour and we had so much fun with him during our four safari drives.
We learned a great deal and laughed a great deal too. The breakfasts provided during the safaris are just awesome, so filling and a lovely hot cup of tea is very welcome also!
We saw Tigers on 3 of the 4 safaris we took and a Leopard also. We also saw two Wild Dogs and on our last safari, we stated that it was our hope to see Sloth Bears and could not believe it, when we saw two Sloth Bears coming to the water for an evening drink.
We were truly blessed to have seen so many animals during our visit, not to mention all the other animals and birds that we saw.
The lodge is conveniently located to the parks and we could not recommend the Kanha Jungle Lodge highly enough!

Room Tip: The two cottage rooms have rear private verandas whereas the other rooms have shared front verandas
