“Fantastic Food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2012

When we first arrived, the place looked very pretty and was great as we were sent straight on short a drive (we were late due to our train) but very disappointed as when we got back we felt we were left in the lurch as no one actually greeted us or gave us any guidance whatsoever. It turned out that we had actually seen the manager but he didn't even introduce himself or tell us what would be happening and speaking to him later he came across quite abrupt and rude (maybe it was just us as later noticed he seemed fine with everyone else!) To completely counteract that however, his wife Dimple was lovely, welcoming and very helpful beyond the call of duty. (even arranging to get me thermals as we hadn't realised how freezing it was in the mornings!) The manager (i still don't know his name!) was later a bit nicer to us but it was just a shame that the initial impression was so poor. Also, after having stayed at another lodge straight after, where there was very much a group feeling and everyone sat round together with the guides and the emphasis was on the drives and seeing the tigers, i would say this was more treated like a hotel which for us wasn't as good. The surroundings at the lodge were lovely though and the service in general was very good and efficient just mainly quite formal.
Our guide Vinay was great and very sweet and helpful, unfortunately we had a very disappointing couple of days with regards to viewing tigers but that certainly wasn't anyone's fault but just bad luck.
Most of all I have to say the food was amazing, for lunch and dinner we had a very varied buffet and it was absolutely delicious. If it was a restaurant we would have gone there everyday just for that!

The Kanha jungle lodge lies close to the Mukki gate of Kanha National Park. It provides excellent enthousiastic guides, good accomodation, good staff and excellent food. I have been here 2 times now and defintely will come back. No doubt.

We couldn't speak more highly of our experience at the Jungle Lodge. From 'Theron' the eloquent and accommodating host, to the attentive staff, top class accommodation fabulous food, and second-to-none jungle guides, we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Kahna was a far better experience for us than the much over-hyped Bandhavargh National Park, and rated amongst our best ever wildlife experiences, including in Africa. The only thing that we could pick Theron up on is that sometimes they are so keen to please you that they feed the guests too much! Wonderful food of course, but we had to skip the odd lunch, as breakfast and dinner was more than enough! Overall - highly recommend others booking here. With best wishes to the Team for next season. We had a wonderfull time at Kanha Jungle Lodge. We enjoyed any minute. The food was exellent, the staff was very friendly and helpfull. We enjoyed all our meals together with the manager and his wife. They were very kind and made it a perfect time for us. Kanha N.P. - gate is just a few minutes from the lodge so you can have an early start for the safari's. We had a great time. We did see tigers, leopards and even a sloth-bear and a lot of other animals.
We will like to come again for a longer stay!!!

Stayed 4 nights at this lodge, and were lucky enough to be given one of the large rooms. Very spacious, with a large mobile A/C unit and a fan ensuring comfortable temperatures at night. All the windows have insect proof netting across them , so you can also leave your windows open at night.
Food was very good, a mix of table service and buffet, and the overall service was good. There are a couple of walks through the "jungle" down to the river, and these are very welcome to stretch the legs after many hours in jeeps and transfer vehicles!
Our guides/naturalists.drivers were Alaam and Mahesh, and they were both excellent.
The overall experience was somewhat spoilt by the fact that, unknown to us, we had chosen the start of the Indian holiday season, and the Park was therefore absolutely packed (150 jeeps are alowed in per day, and many people were turned away). On one morning the overly officious Senior Ranger decided he wanted to see ID from everyone queuing up to go in. This meant a high speed drive back to the lodge to get our passports, and over 40 minutes game viewing lost (we were also detained for 20 minutes once as they had "mislaid" our entry papers). Because of the masses of jeeps trying to get in, it was necessary to get to the gate at least 30 minutes before it opened, and wait in the darkness. There are no guidelines on which route the drivers take once in the Park, and often it becomes a bit of a procession towards an area where previous sighting had occurred. The lodge is situated quite close to the "quieter" of the 2 Park entrances, Mukki Gate (50 jeeps allowed in this gate) but lots of the jeeps from the busier gate (Kishli) drove straight over to our area, and we sometimes found ourselves in amongst more than 25 other jeeps (the occupants of which were not always as quiet as they should have been!)
Wildlife sightings for us were not spectacular (one tiger seen from the back of an elephant during the "tiger show", and one rear end disappearing in to the bush). No leopard or sloth bears were seen, but we did have excellent and prolonged views of a couple of wild dogs(dhole) which made up somewhat for the lack of stripey action.
Overall, we would be happy to stay at this lodge if we return to Kanha, but would not go anywhere near there in April!

Eric
