Road tripping along the coast of Southern Leyte can take days and a bit of a toll on your wallet. Convenient, comfortable and cheap lodgings are always welcome and Silago Tourist Inns is one of these.
The inn is right beside the bus stop of the sleepy town of Silago. Nothing fancy here: a handful of average size, clean rooms with a choice of electric fan or AC for 300 to 800 pesos a night; two shared bathrooms that are clean enough and always has running water. My only complaint is the slight funky smell in the hallway.
You can order breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant on the main floor. And you can even ask them to have your food served in your room.
The place is pretty quiet in the morning, with a bit of a breeze coming into the rooms from the sea. But since there's a karaoke machine at the restaurant, there might be a chance of some noise at night. Luckily, while we were there, the drinking and karaoke sessions ended early.
For entertainment, there's cable TV in the room - a small reminder that you're not totally off the grid. You can also walk to the beach, visit the town market for some fresh fruits and bread or see the sperm whale exhibit by the health center which are only 2-3 blocks away from the Inn. Or, just as we did, sit by the veranda at night with a bottle of cold beer, watching the buses from Manila pass by and enjoying the good company.
